ParticipantTook a drive up last night to watch Solana Beach in the Little League western regionals in San Bernadino, and saw those Martha Stewart signs on 215.
Perris was a bit scary at the place I hopped for gas around midnight. About 4-5 sketchy characters and a panhandler.

ParticipantI have purchased homes twice using VA Loans, at 100%. I was very lucky each time, in that I had to sell at less than 7 years, and I didn’t lose. Technically on my Ohio house I did lose in that the county made me replace the Septic, however, the home value went up enough so that it only cost me about 7K at closing. Had the value of the house gone down, or stayed flat, I’d could not have afforded to close.

ParticipantHe is Jr. Midget, D-2. 30 of the 35 are new to tackle football so they created a new team. I think it’s great because he’ll get to play more.
Ironically he won’t be attending LCC in HS as he is transferring over to Santa Fe Christian. Making that backwards drive from Cardiff to LCC is a pain in the morning from everything I hear. (given that I work down in the UTC area). However that new field looks great.

ParticipantHey Allan it is my son’s first year of Pop Warner (12 going into 7th grade) and I couldn’t be more stoked. I have coached Little League, his school’s basketball team (6th grade), and run a travel ball baseball team… But with Pop Warner, I decided to pull up a lawn chair, (or bleachers) and watch.
No offense to the hard work you guys do, but my time is getting pulled in many directions, particularly baseball. My kid plays for LCC Pop Warner. Not sure how he’ll do being first year and all, but he looks ok out there and can’t wait to get pad on.

ParticipantMy wife and kids would move back to Ohio tomorrow if I said I had a good job lined up. In fact I nearly had a 6 figure management job lined up, but it didn’t work out (no relocation). I can’t say I would have pulled the trigger. In the short time I have been here, I am quite active in youth sports, have formed a baseball club team, etc. Our neighbors in Ohio moved in from Des Moines and they loved Ohio as much as Des Moines.
My family likes it here, but the difference is we have close relatives back there, and both my wife and my parents have no hope of moving here outside of someone hitting the lottery. My sons’ growing up years were on a big yard (3 acres about half wooded) where they had a pool and basketball court, room for baseball and football and exploring. We also had a creek running through our front yard (building a new bridge cost me 8K). Thus they became accustomed to being home bodies, and having to go to a park to play (none very walkable here) is a tough adjustment. We have a larger backyard than most, but still it’s not the same.
That said there were downsides, such as gloomy days, rainy days half the week, etc.

ParticipantRadelow, wouldn’t tax returns over a 2-3 year period work for documentation?

ParticipantI just liked a lot of those towns in terms of where I’d want to buy. I used to work at Sabre (down by the airport HQ, not in Southlake), and rented in Euless. Nearly bought in a nice part of Bedford, but couldn’t pull the trigger. Then we moved to Ohio for 6 years where we owned the entire time.
My wife taught at Trinity High, and we were watching TV the other night and saw the Trojans featured on a national commercial for Gatorade. They show a bunch of HS football shots, and you see Trinity Trojans, during a game, and at the end Bill Parcells is at the toll booth saying “Can you pay the toll”. We were not sure until we re-wound the commercial and saw the HS behind one of the practices.
