No quarry.
Congratulations paramount.
I thank you for your efforts.
…Whether the quarry project is dead remained unclear immediately after the vote. Granite’s options could include challenging the decision in court or submitting a new quarry application to the county.
An e-mailed statement from Granite spokeswoman Karie Reuther didn’t address what the Watsonville-based corporation would do next.
“We’re very disappointed by today’s decision by the board as the environmental studies clearly show this project would be good for Riverside County,” the statement read….
paramount, congrats on your so-far-successful “grass roots” efforts at NIMBYism but I don’t think it’s over quite yet. I’ve seen a lot of this in my lifetime and can emphatically say here that the “fat lady” still has to perform her encores :=]

ParticipantI’ve said it before and will say it again. It’s not over until the fat lady sings … and sometimes performed several encores…

These full-bodied wines are right up your alley, scaredy (pun intended). Available in box or bottle (some at Albertsons)!
Also watch the lovely (Russian??) “Warden” on the links reviewing the different varieties, lol ….
Bottled in scenic “Soledad, CA,” from central coast grapes, I guarantee you’ll feel right at home trying one of these after a hard workout :=]

ParticipantI find it hilarious that RP is just following the procedure that has been laid out by his “party” and thereby systematically chipping away at those all-important delegate spots state-by-state, lol….
I know from experience that grass-roots tactics in many ways work to push a candidate out front and center – that is … WHEN it counts.
Go RP!!!!

ParticipantDirections to “Slab City”:
From San Diego or Yuma, take Interstate 8 to Hwy. 111 north. Niland is about 32 miles. Turn east on Main St. (turns into Beal Road) and go a little over 3 miles to Salvation Mountain and Slab City.

Interesting article on college admissions.
…Budget-strapped state schools such as the University of California at San Diego are reducing enrollment of Asian-Americans to make room for international students from China and elsewhere who pay almost twice the tuition of in-state residents, Bloomberg News reported Dec. 28….
This is only the beginning. When all the Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans who will soon be bumped from the military and given Veteran’s preference (and benefits) in the UC system, there will be few slots left for incoming freshman who are graduates of CA high schools and lifelong residents no matter WHAT their GPA and SAT scores.
What is the true percentage of international students in undergrad campuses? marginal. if you can find data supporting your assertion that Chinese international students are bumping out vets in colleges, ANY colleges, with subpar scores and grades purely because of colleges’ need for cash, SHOW US THE DATA.
Don’t pull this type of foreigners are taking our spot comments without proof. that puts you in a really bad light.
ocrenter, I was simply quoting the current Bloomberg report that brian posted. Why don’t you read the report and ask THEM where they got the data??
I can tell you that in my “college days” (which was “eons ago”), public universities across the country admitted many thousands of middle-eastern students simply because they paid 2-3 times the admission of in-state students. The vast bulk of these students took their degrees back home with them after their wealthy (Saudi and other nationality) fathers paid cash for their educations. The students were all male as middle-eastern women were not allowed to have careers at that time.
At the same time, vast numbers of returning Vietnam-era vets enrolled in universities across the nation using a “veteran’s preference” and the “Vietnam-Era GI Bill.”
We will see this phenomenon again beginning Fall 2012, IMHO. Iraq and Afghanistan vets have returned en masse in the last 3 months and are getting discharged, relocated and situated as Civilians by the military. When each one figures out what they want to major in and where they want to go to school, the Veteran’s Administration will assist them (in lieu of allowing them to retire with the military). Veteran’s preference in admissions WILL win out over recent HS grads with high GPA’s and SAT/ACT scores. They always have.
Due to this situation, I believe the CA community colleges are going to have to greatly expand their curriculum to accommodate far more recent HS grads as freshmen and serve to get their GE’s out of the way so they can enter a university with an associate degree as a junior as the freshman slots at the UC/CSU level will simply not be there in the coming years.

Participant
…This looks to be an interesting strategy, and I’m surprised we haven’t seen much about it in the national media.
EconProf, I think the reason these techniques are not highly publicized is that they are rare. How many property owners right now CAN be “serial refinancers.” First, their CREDIT has to be good enough to do so, they can’t have too much open consumer debt or student loans and they need an appropriate steady flowing income (W-2 preferred). Secondly, their mortgages cannot have prepayment penalties or other provisions to keep them in it for a period of time (6th mos?).
I just don’t see a current tsunami of “mainstream owners” being able to do this every few months, even if they wanted to.

ParticipantFrom what I can see, homeowners in my neck of the woods are starting to spend money again on their properties: trees, gazebos, landscaping, sprinkler systems, concrete, fencing, windows, roof repair/replacement, tent fume (not for resale), etc.
Not sure if this is representative of older areas around the county, overall, but am happy to see it happening :=]

* If you are well-to-do, go to Mission Hills

Good advice, CONCHO.
IIRC, pemeliza posted that Grant Elementary in MH (K-8) was a great school! Not sure about the boundaries for that school. Maybe he can help.
In addition, HTH, Pt Loma HS and SDHS are ALL in the attendance area of Hillcrest/MH. This means transportation may possibly be available from points in 92103 to these schools.

Participant
I remember lots of women saying they didn’t want children at the outset.
Many lied.
This is believable, scaredy. HOWEVER, they are wasting their time with a date who’s gone thru the local “spay/neuter” program. These lying dates might have a slightly better chance of a lasting relationship with dates who have the ability to be future parents, lol.
In the same vein, those daters who have gone thru the “spay/neuter” program should be up front about that fact when they are communicating with a potential date PRIOR to even meeting them! Obviously, children or lack thereof will be discussed at this time … that is, unless the “daters” in question are simply seeking a “casual encounter” :=]
And no, I do not have any ads out for a date.
