Too crowded.
Well shoot I gotta go visit! Burning mans too expensive and mainstream
There is a “California’s Gold” episode in which Huell Howser visits Slab City and Salvation Mountain. I can’t remember what Huell said… but bets are on, “That’s ahhhMAYzing!!!”
And also, as the article points out, it was featured in the book and movie “Into the Wild.”
Directions to “Slab City”:
From San Diego or Yuma, take Interstate 8 to Hwy. 111 north. Niland is about 32 miles. Turn east on Main St. (turns into Beal Road) and go a little over 3 miles to Salvation Mountain and Slab City.
Does it have to be in the US?
Josh
I once stayed at the North Shore Motel about 25 years ago during a dove hunting trip. When we were checking in the lady at the counter told us we should not sleep in the beds under the covers using the sheets. During the night the room next door had a huge domestic fight, I was shocked nobody called the cops………….
This is just awesome. If my wife leaves me for the gardener and takes the kids, I’m all over it.
Would be really fun to build a quaint little house, paint it pink with a picket fence on one of those slabs.
Tweakers = Zombies, go with a heavy load of 00 buck.
I went to slab city recently as part of a road trip. It’s basically a garbage dump with bad weather. There are MUCH better places to park a solar powered RV.

Probably none with more character, though.
Character, and characters.
