Participant
why can’t a system be imagined where a prostitute can turn down a client, same as any business or profession?
indeed, if she cannot turn anyone away, she’s not consenting. so that’s rape.
I’m pretty sure girls at the Bunny Ranch can turn down the guy if she wanted too. I totally agree that if she cannot turn down anyone, then she’s not consenting and that’d be rape. Being in a place like the Bunny Ranch vs some dark alley or at some John’s house gives the woman so much more protection from rape and abuse. After all, they have cameras in every room.an
Participant
Or just that we get stuck watching a fvcking software build take 1.5 hours on supposedly the fastest laptop you have at your disposable.
The fastest laptop is like saying you’re the fastest cripple. If you want a real fast computer, get a real desktop :-D.an
Participant
Because being a prostitute is a helluva lot different than being a consultant, or a dishwasher, or a woman in a marriage that has grown apart after a decade or so.
But they’re also hella similar to women in porn, women who are addicted to sex and have lots of one night stands, women who are cougars, women who are single and do one night stand, and women who are swingers. All of these women gets to do what they want without being prosecuted while sex workers does not have the same luxury.an
Participant
No, actually I don’t feel sorry for them at all. As a current landlord and potentially even more so in the coming years, I do hope rent keeps going up… In fact I hope it skyrockets….
Personally, my living costs are going down with the ever decreasing mortgage rates and generally paying down the loan debt…Meanwhile, my income definitely is staying steadily if not gone up a bit during this time, as I have tacked on more passive income… (I was able to gain 1 rental property from this meltdown…And possible more in the future)…
And relatively speaking, stupid people that did stupid things for the matter have to deal with their consequences these days. They’re starting to finally get foreclosed on… They get to pay for higher rent now…to people like me…And a lot of them, the credit spigot is now off. They’re gonna miss out on the these killer cheap credit that will enable responsible people like us to grow our net worth…..
For the first time, I actually think people that have been financially responsible are starting to get the upper hand…,
Cheer up folks…It’s not all that bad for people that’s been responsible.
I totally agree and that’s my sentiment exactly. It’s about damn time and I hope rent skyrockets.an
ParticipantWhat’s going on with NCI? Here’s the inventory numbers for MM:
[img_assist|nid=16180|title=|desc=|link=node|align=left|width=419|height=458]
81 SFR!!! Where’s the inventory? What happen to the spring flood, the summer flood, the inventory tsunami? Inventory needs to increase by 66% from this point, just to get back to last November’s inventory level.an
Participant
Libertarian logic is often so hopelessly shallow.
I don’t understand why private citizens cannot own nuclear weapons.
Why is does the government take away my freedom to own a nuclear weapon?
Of course if someone a nuclear weapon to harm others they should go to jail.
Just because I own one doesn’t make me a criminal.
Participant
Ok. Well, I guess on this particular issue I’m maybe then I’m of a narrow minded conservative/closet pervert then. I admit for some reason, I just have a problem with it. But fellow piggies can try to convince me otherwise to be more socially liberal on this one…
Don’t get me wrong, I’m totally against what’s going on in South East Asia in term of lying to little girls and kidnapping them and bringing them to a country that they don’t know the language, to keep them as slave. That’s totally abhorrent to me. Which is why I’m hopping it’ll be legalized, that way, the government and keep an eye on it, men who would have gone seeking for a prostitute might go for the legal one, since they can be more sure they’re less likely to get STD. This would decrease the demand for these current brothels that enslaves girls. Supply and demand can work in reducing the enslaving of girls if you give these “Johns” another option (a legal one).an
Participant
You do realize a good number of prostitutes these days wereforced into a slave trade.,, particularly some from Asia.. a lot of them are forced
I don’t think anyone is denying that there are slavery involved in the ILLEGAL portion of the prostitution. The question is, how many slaves do you know working at the Bunny Ranch? When you make things legal, you can monitor it. What you’re describing might be a causation due to prostitution being illegal. Just like how organize crime used to exist before alcohol was made legal.an
Participant

http://www.cnn.com/video/?hpt=hp_t3#/video/showbiz/2012/05/02/drew-bts-alana-evans-porn-star-mom.cnn
porn star chooses porn because it’s compatible with single motherhood childcare needs.
Hold on there…. Dr. Paul sayz…
A pornstar is not the same thing as a prostitute.
A prostitute pretty much will indiscriminately have sex with just about everyone.
A pornstar typically has sex to on screen to make money, but does not necessarily screw anyone indiscriminately.
Not the same thing….
Sincerely,
Dr. Paul (Formerly Walterwhite II, formerly FLU)
Are you sure about that?an
ParticipantJohn Stossel covered this same topic recently too:

Participantflu, you also have to understand that I don’t upgrade my computers that often. The last time I upgraded was over 4 years ago. I don’t intend to upgrade again probably for at least another 2-4 years. When I do upgrade, I don’t upgrade everything at once either. The case, the power supply, the hard drive, etc. tend to be carried over and I just upgrade the motherboard/CPU/memory. I also don’t upgrade to the top of the line stuff. I just upgrade to the 2nd tier, so I’m OK with throwing away $300-400 every 6-8 years or so on the computer. Hell, I’m throwing away much more money than that in gas.
Between my pictures and home videos, I already have 300GB worth of data. It’s only growing from there, and most of those pictures were from my lowly XTi. I recently upgrade to a XSi, so my photo collections will only grow that much faster. Which is why I LOVE flickr. For a pro account, you get unlimited space AND you get to upload your RAW. It’s also much much cheaper than any other solutions out there right now. For docs and other misc, I just use the 25GB free space from Skydrive and that is way more than enough for me for all non-media related files.
Can BMW tell if you had chipped your car even if you remove it before you bring it in for service? AFAIK, they should be able to tell. If they can’t, then they shouldn’t be able to void your warranty. But I agree that if you want to have that peace of mind, Dinan is the way to go.
Upgrading fuel pressure regulator and adding oil cooler shouldn’t be “that” expensive. You gotta pay to play :-D. I’m pondering between a 535 wagon or a M5 as my next car (used of course). I’m glad BMW went with 4.4L Turbo V8. Too bad it doesn’t have a wagon variant. That’d be my choice.

Participant

Interesting idea. So, you can get a primary resident loan, seal up that wall, and voila, you have a 1 bedroom apartment to rent out. The number might work out very well if you rent out that “apartment”.
Best part is you’ll be able to charge LJ adjacent rent!
I’m actually seriously interested in this design and wonder if it’ll catch on. Especially in more desirable areas. Imagine for a second, a 3000 sq-ft house in Carmel Valley current selling for $800k, downing 20% and getting a 30 year fixed FHA loan, your payment would be around $3800. That 1 bedroom + garage apartment can easily rent out for at least $1600 if not $1800. So, in essence, you get to live in your 2200-2400 sq-ft house with net payment of ~$2k. That’s unheard of in an area like Carmel Valley.an
Participant
Compwise only from my W2.. SD is doing better for me than Silicon Valley if you factor in cost of living. And way better than L.A….At least currently….
It’s not just you and me. I’ve talked to a few coworkers who are at the director level and we all agree that, if you’re young, single, and wanna take a swing in hoping to be at the ground floor of the next Facebook/Google, etc, then the bay is where you should be. But once you get older and taking that kind of risk is out of the question and you have to do budget based on W-2 and cost of living, you’ll quickly notice that they bay ain’t got nothing on SD. I’m living 11 blocks away from work and when I was getting interview up in the bay, that was one of my criteria (being <20 blocks or ~5 miles away from work). With that criteria, my cost of living went up at least 50% and when you add in comparable school quality, the cost of living gap widen. Then I ask about the ball park of pay for companies up there and companies down here. It turns out the gap was ~10% for a Sr. Software Engineer. -
