ParticipantWhy do the simpleton ranchers get to have the monopoly on what “real life” is like? Maybe they should leave their comfortable ranches and come see how us city folk live from time to time.
Perhaps Allan hasn’t seen some professors ever leave La Jolla, and while I agree that that’s a bad thing, I’ve certainly never seen an Iowa corn farmer hanging out in downtown either.

ParticipantDr. Doom @Nouriel tweets:
QE2 will be followed by QE3 and QE4 as QE2 will fail to revive the real economy and to prevent deflationary pressures…
QE3: more Treasuries purchases by the Fed in 2011 once QE2 has little traction on deflation risk and anemic growth
QE4: another round of reckless tax cuts pushed by the GOP financed by Fed monetization of deficit (effectively an helicopter drop of money)
QE5: The Fed targeting the 10yr Treasury yield at 1% by committing to buy unlimited Treasuries at that price/yield as it did in the 1950s.

Participant
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m still waiting for BGIG to provide data about the total number of green jobs there are in CA.
Not sure about total # of green jobs, but here are 105 created via funding from the stimulus:
$3.3 million loan to Canada’s Morgan Solar Inc. to buy equipment to establish a concentrated photovoltaic solar panel manufacturing facility in Chula Vista. The project, which is expected to create 105 full-time jobs, will have an annual capacity of 10 megawatts after it begins operations next November. Morgan Solar will also provide an estimated $3.3 million in leveraged funds.
Too bad it’s to a Canadian company, but at least the jobs are being created here.

ParticipantIt’ll be interesting to see how Boehner reigns in his new Tea Party compatriots. They’re going to have an agenda that doesn’t exactly line up with the traditional Republican agenda. During the Bush years it was easy for the Repubs to vote straight down party lines. The Tea Party has thrown a little wrench into those gears. Does Boehner have the leadership skills to keep his party’s various interests in line?
Also now that he and his party has some power, they have to walk the fine line between appearing obstructionist and appearing like he’s caving in to Obama’s agenda. Do they work with the Dems to solve these very real problems? Or do they shut down government? Either way could bite them in the ass with voters. Boehner has his work cut out for him.
To me the story here is more about how the Republicans (and their Tea Party subset) are going to govern rather than any massive swing in the political landscape. It is easy to be an opposition party — much more difficult having to actually govern.
And now… Boehner jokes!
When the House of Representatives has a Boehner, every night is erection night.
I’ll be here all night.
