Participant
The government doesn’t offer a public option for auto insurance… Why?
Because auto insurance costs aren’t bleeding families, small businesses, and corporations to death? I reckon that if they were we’d be hearing about a public option for auto insurance as well.
Also, you are “forced” to have auto insurance not to protect yourself, but to protect the other drivers that you will have an effect on if you crash into them.

Participant
You mean like the porkulous bill, cap and trade, the omni-bust bill and everything else they’ve been in rush to cram through?
Exactly my point. Isn’t the fact that the Dems are having trouble getting this thing through a good thing?

Participant
It’s far more interesting to me that the Dems, who now effectively control the Executive Office and both the Senate and the House, can’t seem to pass to pass this bill. what’s the problem?
Could it be that the Democrats are made up of a far more diversified group of representatives than the Republicans are, making it much more difficult to reach a consensus? Isn’t this how the legislative branch is supposed to work? As opposed to ramming everything through with a rubber stamp?

ParticipantI also have a hunch that the people opposing the tyranny of soda tax fully support the tyrrany against other things — drinking a cold one on the beach, public display of boobs, enjoying a spliff, taking your own life. Just a hunch.
