no no no, im opposed to people living together even in rentals pre-marriage. I am not saying that the law should prohibit it, but I just think that it can’t be good. it’s not a preview of what you’re getting into anyway. The only compelling reason i can think of is to save on heating bills. I also don’t approve of “rent with an option to buy” housing contracts.

November 22, 2010 at 6:52 PM #632899NotCrankyParticipantThe only time I lived with a woman I was not married to was great, very fair all around. We even lent each other decent sums of money and both of us paid it back as promptly as we said we would. She is still my friend. I disagree with brian’s fearful generalization.
Sdr’s thing is bunk too. I think it is more how you move your kids around, then whether or not you do it. Lots of real screw ups never left the hood.
I have no experience buying a house with a romantic interest who I was not married to… and I think I’d skip it. However, I think it could work.

lol, scaredy, you are SO right about “living together” and “marriage” being completely different experiences. And I have seen “rent with an option to buy” (RE) actually benefit buyers who timely exercise their (fair) option, but much more often than not, this “contract” heavily favors the seller.
