Just in case AN desides to scroll past the yelling match between marion and Davelj….
There is no yelling match between Marion and davelj. It’s obvious Dave can’t be reasoned with.
In regards to the topic, it looks like the residents prevailed. They didn’t want a Walmart in their community and it didn’t happen. I don’t know the area, but I guess they don’t have a K-Mart either, same thing.

ParticipantI still believe that the little guy can make a difference.
When you organize, there is a force multiplier effect.
I strongly suspect that local opposition played some role in Walmart’s decision not to go ahead with store in Carlsbad.
When you see something you don’t like, at what point do you stick your head out the window (famous movie quote, “Network” I believe) and say “I’m mad as hell and I’m not gonna take it anymore!”
Kudos to those who stood out an protested in the rain a few months back. You made a difference.

ParticipantThis is the pure case of NIMBY people winning. They seems to win most of the case they fight. I guess if you want to live in nice area, you have to either deal with driving farther to affordable stores or settle with paying more for the same thing.

GuestThese are pictures of a Walmart Neighborhood Market in FL.
If it were named anything other than WalMart, the residents of Carlsbad would welcome it. It’s about the size of a Vons and nicer.
Open 24 hours is a big plus.
