ParticipantPemeliza,
It sounds like you have a wonderful house, and getting the right location and lot trumps the “right” house, IMHO. It must be great to be able to get to Balboa Park, Coronado, etc. easily.
A few weeks ago, we went to a party down by San Carlos, and immediately fell in love with the hosts’ house (and a big “thank you” to the wonderful hosts, who also read here from time to time…just in case you’re reading this.) π It’s the very house we’ve spent so many years looking for, but when we looked at a map in an attempt to find some kind of shortcut to NCC (there were none), we realized we’d have to spend far too much time driving, and had to give up on the area.
Congratulations on your purchase, and I hope you spend many happy, healthy years there. π

FYI the contingent short sale on Cole Ranch that was listed under $1M just came back on the market. You know the one that half the home buyers in NCC have been lusting after. Lender approved the short sale but wants $1.25M. These things have a way of working themselves out.[/quote]If it’s the one we talked about the other week, it’s still a good deal.
BTW, it seems that most of the country saw a RE boom in the mid to late 80s with a subsequent drop in the early 90s. Isn’t this what you saw on the east coast? Many others I’ve spoken to about it seem to remember it the way we saw it on the west coast.
We all (California, the U.S., and the world) saw RE price increases during the credit bubble (2001-2007, plus the manipulation years of 2008-???? for the areas that weren’t allowed to drop yet). Even if there were no price increases during that time (in only a few areas), chances are prices were stable/slightly dropping when they should have been falling more dramatically.
