I remember about 14 years ago, a co-worker of mine who was a die hard progressive admired a Latin America country. He praised how well that country was run… how they had a wonderful working public health system, wonderful energy reserves, balanced economy, a government that lacked the corruption we have in the US, a strong socialist leader that cared about the greater good of the country. I challenged him and asked if things are so great why doesn’t he move there…..He said he was working on it.
Anyway, he was talking about Venezuela. I hope he moved there…. lol…
February 13, 2019 at 1:43 PM #811759FlyerInHiGuest
The bullet train isn’t a waste of funds — the construction was just grossly mismanaged. A French or Chinese consortium could have done it at 1/4 the cost, but no, we have to “buy American.”
I suspect that’s the idea — have the corrupt US contractors build it Merced to Bakersfield, and have a foreign company with actual experience build from Bakersfield to LA. Tracks already exist from Oakland to Merced. With lighter off-the-shelf European trains now being allowed by Federal law, this section could be electrified and used for the northern section to SF, with the “last mile” being along the Bay Bridge.
China opens a new high speed rail line every week. I’m most impressed with their extreme temperature rail lines.
Some Americans have no shame. They will claim that we have superior technology. Yeah, at the universities, as basic research. But the Chinese implemented technology. They have machines to build rail lines, bridges and bore tunnels, while Caltrans still builds things by hand.
BTW, there is a big anxiety in Europe. Asltom-Siemens wanted to merge in order to compete with CRRC but the European commission vetoed the merger.

love it or leave it a false dilemma.
If you were rational you would apply the same standard to Republicans living in California.
Or the American chamber of commerce in China. They operate there and are glad for the business opportunities, but they bitch about the system.

Wanting to vote for someone to “hit back at Ca. harder” is kinda nut-jobbish especially when Ca is admittedly the best place to make your family nut.
I call them the Republicans.

however if trump suddenly died of natural causes there would be mass spontaneous exuberant street celebrations. hell trump death day would probably be a holiday 4 years to come. i dare say that would be a’1st in us history, celebrating death from old age and obesity, and perhaps a sign of TDS.
i admit i would raise a glass and smile to think of some big chunk of the old

trump derangement syndrome is just something that trump followers came up with because, as econtroll (or “econprof,” as he hilariously calls himself) and neeta and their ilk have shown, they can’t defend their positions using logic and reason. They’re reduced to responding to reasonable discussions with the silly notion that anybody who’s outraged at the outrage that is the trump presidency must be irrational.
It’s irrational not to be alarmed. That’s the real trump derangement syndrome. To be so delirious with cultish devotion to someone whom you pathetically believe when he says he’s “the only one who can fix it” that you can’t see the truth or the danger or the outrage.

If, by the opposite of tds you mean
To be so delirious with cultish devotion to someone whom you pathetically believe when he says he’s “the only one who can fix it” that you can’t see the truth or the danger or the outrage.
then I’d partially agree. That does seem to apply to a sizable majority of republicans.

Did you see Pence at the Munich security conference?
The USA is declining. that serves us right for pandering to a culture of ignorance.

Why don’t you concentrate on your own side? We’ll take responsibility for our own.
You keep on wanting to blame Democrats from Trump’s win. Trump won because Republicans voted for him. Doesn’t get any simpler than this.
Did you consider how socialist it is to bring back the coal industry that employs only 50,000 people. Trump actually has concrete policies to produce and use more coal.

I could go for pragmatism.

yes.. but I have a feeling pragmatism is going to get drowned out. I hope not… I think the democrats leaders have fallen off the rocker….look at who is the most vocal. Who is front page on CNN… Warren, Bernie, Harris, AOC.
