August 23, 2010 at 11:33 PM #595246TexasLineParticipantI have huge reservations about responding…
…for fear of being beaten up-…but….I am really sick of all this anti-City of San Diego employee crap that I hear here and at just about every News source there is.
There are huge misappropriations of funds in any organization…Right of Wrong?
There are people at the “top” of every company who receive more money than what we think is appropriate(another discussion)…Right or Wrong?
Working for any municipality one should expect that some people have taken their positions based on an anticipated financial gain….is this different from a fortune 500 Co….?
In every example there are examples of those who have “worked the system”…Right or Wrong?
That being said, I work for the City and I have no idea what any of the Great Pension Talk is about.
I did not seek my job out based on what my pension would be….I did not accept my job based on some esoterical pension in the sky….I do not continue in my job because of the great pension benefits….I don’t know anything about my pension benefits and I don’t care. I want only to provide for my family.
….In fact! My monthly take home pay has continually gone down over the last 2 years(the phantom round-about tax increase that you all have never heard about)…I was struggling 6 years ago when I started and now I struggle even more. I have moved to a cheaper area and have cut every possible cost I can.(We don’t eat out-we don’t have cable-my wife wears the same clothes as 15 years ago….etc…)
So enough with the “blanket accusations” that City Employees “suffer” such terrible futures(sarcasm).
I have a good job. I work hard. I deal with things most people would cry over…and I’m barley making it. AND a “pension” is irrelevant to me in these hard times….always has been and always will be. I’d rather have “my” money to invest the way “I” see fit.
Point is….and I hope you get this…not all City employees are acting like greedy, selfish little bastards. Most of us actually struggle, unlike most of you…(that’s my little dig at those of you with two incomes making over 200,000+ and actually doing quite well on a daily basis, and with your investments…am implying you should take the plank out of your eye…etc…etc…)
