It is a worthwhile question to ask: “why-should-I-pay-for-you?”. People need to be responsible for their own lives and should not expect others to take care of them and their irresponsible acts. Why should those that act responsibly be penalized? That said, there should be some way to cover those who are beset by circumstances beyond their control, but how do you tell that it was circumstances beyond their control vs. lack of responsibility in their behavior?
If we are going to think your way, we should first repeal the property taxes. Why should I pay for other people’s kids’ education?
Having babies is a choice that people make.
Parents should pay to send their kids to public schools. Only poor kids would get subsidized education.
I think that health care is more important than education.
I personally think education is more important than health care. but anyhow, the questions by bob are just plain silly.

“California has had caps on medical malpractice since 1975. You can sue for unlimited MEDICAL costs if there is malpractice, but the non-medical costs (pain and suffering, etc) is capped. And that cap has not risen since it was first put in place.”What you did not mention is the loophole that allows the Lawyers threaten to file ASSAULT charges as part of the suit (which is a very common practice now) which then removes the cap on non medical costs. So in reality there was not much to the “caps.”

So, yes, I am happy.
And where do you think all the money to pay for all this is coming from? Your family doesnt have the money to cover the costs associated with the health care they demand. Few persons have that money, so most pool their money with their co-worker and their company and get it that way. Your family doesnt have that option apparently, so they need a subsidy from someone else, or they dont get it. Simple as that. Nothing is free in this world, and you are happy because the government has decided to transfer weath from others to pay for your familys needs. Not suprising, most people would feel the same way. But dont be supprised when others are frustrated at the reduction in their quality of life for your families health care expenses.
