Can you think of something that is now made in China, that was once made here, that is of the same or better quality than the original, US-made product?
I will echo flu’s comments.
Some stuff are better made elsewhere and we have no need to waste time making them.
For example, years ago, back when I got my first house I bought clay planter pots made in East San Diego County and some made in Mexico and made in Italy. The ones made in Italy are of better quality but all of them do become brittle over time.
Now, despite inflation, years later, you can buy glazed planters from China and Vietnam. The Vietnam made planters are of excellent quality and will last a lifetime.
Another thing is fine porcelain. I have Vietnamese friends who told me about Minh Long fine porcelain. It’s beautiful and you can use it everyday for the price of junk. My friend brought me a set from Vietnam and I eat with fine porcelain everyday. I put it in the diswasher and don’t even worry about breaking them because I can replace it for next to nothing (she paid $1 per bowl in Vietnam, more for large items, but still cheaper than Walmart prices). You can even order your own custom set if you want (perhaps with your own design or family crest).

http://www.theporcelainshop.com/home.htmlIn the past, even well-off families didn’t use fine porcelain everyday. Thanks to Vietnam, my standard of living has been improved.
Minh Long porcelain is much nicer than junk like Mikasa and almost on par with high-end Limoges.

Peelu gum – made in the USA. I’ll pay extra for my mouth.
My Colgate from Costco are Made in USA. I only buy Colgate made in USA. They tend to bubble more and gives me a cleaner feeling compare to the one made in Mexico, even when it’s the same brand and model Colgate.I’ll pay more for quality, regardless of where it’s made. I wouldn’t pay more just because it’s Made in USA. Heck, although I don’t like Mac OSX, I have to say they have the best industrial design and exterior quality. They’re also made in China. My point is, just because it’s made in China or Vietnam of some other 3rd world country doesn’t mean it’s crap. It’s up to the manufacturer to set the quality level. I bet those Louis Vuitton purses that re made either in China or Vietnam are of higher quality than your non name brand Made in USA.

That is debateable. Many designers are riding the wave of their reputation now, reaping the profits while reducing their quality/craftsmanship and manufacturing cots. Not sure about Louis Vuitton. That’s never been, nor never will be my price range.
If you’re talking about the copycat ones, that’s a different topic. I still question the quality as compared to something made here. Personally, I try not to be a brand follower, but I find it sad to buy a copycat for the name.
