I’m bored we have a wife birthday to contend with this weekend and I’m trying to decide if I want to get her some spa time (some serious burnout) or just pack up the crew and head out of town.
However my brain is just not talking to me and if were to leave I’d love to hear (we’ll drive) some ideas. Piggs are well-traveled and might have some off-the-beaten path recommendations. My only constraints are I don’t have anywhere to offload the kids so it has be somewhere where they can have a little fun (12 and 14 boys)
Current ideas considered:
– She’s never been to SF, so that is possible, I took the kids up there once for a day and they loved the golden gate.
– We did Vegas a while back and they all loved that, though Fri. night rooms are high. Probably more to do though.
– LA – ?? Anything there for a basic “staycation” (don’t want to do amusement parks)
– Grand Canyon
– Yosemite (probably nowhere to stay though)
So I am fresh out of ideas. Also I’d be willing to buy here spa time in the SD area I suppose but I have no idea how those places work, as I am but a simple country bumpkin. Not quite simple enough to ask how you can do those types of places and not get taken to the cleaners though.
Ladies always seem to enjoy the quick jaunt to Catalina, but the kids may find it a bit boring. Take them on the submarine boat, it’s pretty neat. Just make sure you purchase some ‘fishfood torpedos’

There was a cute small town, called Solvang (sp?) on the way to santa barbara. It’s a Danish styled small town, that had a few nice bed and breakfast places. If you can find lodging there, it’s a nice short trip. (Your kids might get bored).
SF for the weekend would probably be too much for you (especially if you have kids).
