Is it possible there is a relationship between the lack of sustainability of our resource use and the lack of sustainability in our economic system?
Yeah, it’s all connected. Kind of a mass sickness of the soul that has taken hold on a global-scale. A grand morality play in it’s final scene.
Today, the goal of gaining leadership usually isn’t to lead, but to reap the rewards. The piper no longer cares why the children follow, just that he gets paid (and besides, he just likes to hear himself play). What matters is that the piper and the children don’t accept that they have a choice, so the tune gets louder, faster, though the dance stays the same. Down the path of no return we go. Those who have chosen a different path, a different tune, can only watch in horror, as even the piper dances to his own tune. The music won’t stop until the the pipers and dancers fall off a cliff.
Our global investment in this journey to nowhere is fairly complete. Any leaders who do an about face likely get trampled by shear inertia, replaced by a new piper who has worked his way to the front of the line.

May 16, 2011 at 12:40 PM #695699scaredyclassicParticipantI haven’t seen zeiteist but I’ll put it on my netflix list; I thought I might have been having an original thought but of course that’s highly unlikely. Maybe this all goes back to the biblical order to be fruitful and multiply. Is there anything in the Bible about sustainability other than the injunction to be good stewards? Something about limits to growth?
Hey is the bible thing original at least? Or was that in zeitgeist?
Ah wait I just googled green bible… Someones on it… Produced the green bible. Interesting. I might pick up a copy. Focuses on support for sustainability in the good book
