It is called the real world and a great lesson to learn.
Well, not really. Again, I’m not totally against they idea of paying for grades, but I don’t want my kids to learn that people will pay them to do stuff that isn’t really helping the person who is paying them.
In the real world, people only pay you to do stuff that helps them. My kids getting better grades doesn’t help me at all.
So, it isn’t like the real world at all. Well, except maybe kinda like welfare.
That is my EXACT point. It exists in the real world as any government handout!! Welfare, Bailout etc.
My husbands parents were a Lawyer and a Doctor. They handed out money for things like this and several of their well educated children frequently rely on the govt or their parents still to this day.Kid are pretty smart…if they can get something for doing the minimum they will. We are ALWAYS teaching them.

June 12, 2009 at 3:46 PM #414819scaredyclassicParticipanthow is paying for a’s, deducting for c’s and minimally compensating B’s paying someone for doing the minimum. seems more like it’s compensation for doing the max.
i guess if you’re going to put it as welfare, all these kids are freeloading welfare queens living off the fat of the land.
this is crazy. all parents provide incentives. family trips cost dough, dinner costs dough, it’s justa question of what incentive you want to give and what kind of a tag you want on it. maybe it’s the cost-free praise, but you’re just trying to do your incetive program ont he cheap, right?
although we have no problems yet, and dont’ know how he’d do, i’d rather hit the ground running and get him in gear and in the habit of doing good complete work right from the start with as much motivation from him as possible. do you really think threatening him witha future life of underemployed despair is going to really motivate a high school kid? maybe , but no tthis one.
