You do realize that majority of Orange County and San Diego vote Rep? Any explanation of that one? Maybe you can stretch to say that SD are filled with backwards bumpkins, but how do you explain OC?[/quote]I’ve explained that before in a different thread.
http://piggington.com/ot_welcome_to_south_california_the_51st_stateIn 2008 Orange County was only 38,000 votes short of turning blue. There’s a huge population of Vietnamese-Americans who vote Republican 2 to 1 (but that’s changing with the younger population).
Here’s an explanation by a Republican:
http://www.frumforum.com/gop-losing-vietnamese-american-voters
According to the National Asian American Survey (NAAS) entitled “Asian Americans and the 2008 Election” (which was conducted prior to the 2008 Presidential election), Vietnamese Americans were the only Asian American group that leaned more Republican than Democrat
Orange County and Del Norte County are the only counties along the coast that lean Republican. The red counties are inland.
http://elections.nytimes.com/2008/results/president/map.htmlOrange County has been turning decidedly blue since the defeat of Bob Dornan by Loretta Sanchez. As the older generation of Vietnamese-Americans die off, that segment will be turning blue as well.
Everything I wrote here is facts, not opinions; and I provided data to support my statements.

Sanchez also seems to have forgotten that lots of people speak Spanish. Worse yet, in a Spanish language interview Sanchez painted the Vietnamese in cahoots with the evil Republicans.”

I’d say, you’re light on facts and heavy on opinions. You tried to paint the picture than poor people vote republicans and rich people vote democrats. Here are some data to disput your claim. San Diego political map:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Diego_County,_California
Go to the politics section. Although San Diego turned blue in 2008, the districts w/ higher median household income and per capita income voted Republicans while the Districts with lower income voted Democrats.According to the Orange County Registrar of Voters, as of July 21, 2009, Orange County had 1,599,889 registered voters. Of these, 43.6% (698,140) are registered Republicans, and 32.1% (512,853) are registered Democrats. An additional 20.2% (324,669) declined to state a political party.
