Here is the response from Whole Foods:
http://blog.wholefoodsmarket.com/whole-foods-market-responds-to-wjla/%5B/quote%5DSo what it boils down to is…the choice between
1)Be patriotic and buy genetically modified foods that have unknown health consequences
or
2)Buying organic, but sending your dollars to China, and hoping organic really means organic. Gee, I hope the definition of organic doesn’t mean using human waste as fertilizer
Hmmmm decisions decisions decisions….
BTW: this “issue” of organic blend of products from U.S. and overseas isn’t new…. If you go to safeway and look at the “Organics” product, a lot of those products are blended between U.S. and China sourced food. Just look at the apple juice bottles. Organics apple juice is from concentrate made in US and China (which of course means, it’s most likely mostly from China)…
So that’s just great. You as a consumer pay a hell of lot more for organic stuff, but as a way to reap bigger profits, corporations go with the overseas go the cheapest route approach…
Told you folks a lot of this shit is rigged… You’re paying for what is suppose to be better quality… Is it really, or is it just nothing more than some brillant marketing idea done by some MBA to extract as much money as possible from consumers as possible by marketing things as “organic == way more healthier”???
Nice huh?

ParticipantIt is a rigged game. Best to grow some of your own if you can and go to farmer’s markets if you think the sellers are also the growers.

ParticipantSorry but that video is a joke. Anyone who goes to WF to buy frozen vegetables is a dum-dum. I’ll go farther — anyone who EATS frozen vegetables is a dum-dum, especially if they live in California. The stuff you want to eat is in the produce aisle, and at least in the one in my neighborhood, a lot of the goods are from local farms or at least California farms. I rarely see anyone buying much at all from the frozen aisle there and I am in that place 4 or 5 times a week. That is probably a PR move against WF by one of their competitors.

ParticipantThe lastest ‘innovation’ from the world of genetially-modified organisms is genetically-modified corn that can withstand being sprayed with Agent Orange:
While the USDA attempts to assure the public that 2,4-D is safe, scientists have raised serious concerns about the safety of this herbicide, which was used as a key ingredient in “Agent Orange,” used to defoliate forests and croplands in the Vietnam War.
2,4-D is a chlorophenoxy herbicide, and scientists around the world have reported increased cancer risks in association with its use, especially for soft tissue sarcoma and malignant lymphoma. Four separate studies in the United States reported an association with chlorophenoxy herbicide use and non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
“The concern is that, just like Monsanto’s genetically engineered corn that is resistant to RoundUp™ (glyphosate) herbicide, the approval of a cultivar resistant to 2,4-D will cause an exponential increase in the use of this toxic agrichemical,” Kastel stated.
Research by the EPA found that babies born in counties with high rates of 2,4-D application to farm fields were significantly more likely to be born with birth defects of the respiratory and circulatory systems, as well as defects of the musculoskeletal system like clubfoot, fused digits and extra digits. These birth defects were 60% to 90% more likely in counties with higher 2,4-D application rates.
The results also showed a higher likelihood of birth defects in babies conceived in the spring, when herbicide application rates peak.
Who wouldn’t want to chow down on some frankencorn that has been sprayed with Agent Orange? Yummy!
