From the article:
But starting in the 2013-14 school year, it would prohibit districts and the California Board of Education from using textbooks or other instructional materials that reflect adversely on gay, bisexual and transgender Americans.
That seems very rational and reasonable to me. Don’t let textbooks promote hate.
As a kid growing up in the bay area, I already had some of that.
I think its good to know about the important civil rights struggles for any group in your area.
I would want my son (soon to be sons, plural) to know about that also.
Congratulations, Dan! You’re officially a breeder. LOL.
Seriously – as the mom of 2 boys – it’s a fun job raising boys.April 27, 2011 at 7:48 AM #689623UCGalParticipantFrom the article:

Once the test scores are up and we are turning out sharp kids, we can discuss adding esoteric topics to the curricula.
Shouldn’t the focus be on the accomplishments and not tied to sexual preference anyway?
Yeah, I don’t get this either….Our government seems to like to prefer to stimulate our kid’s social sensitivity more so than making them competent/skillful adults in the ultra-competitive 21st century….only to discover that when they set foot on a foreign country, things are nowhere near as “fair” as things are here in america…But no worries, if our kids fall further behind in core skills, there’s plenty of folks from asia/india/europe who don’t have a problem filling those opportunities our kids should have had (end sarcasm)…
Respecting individuals should be a simple rule/law at school, that is covered one day or a few days at school… Namely, “if you harass/bully people based on ethnicity, sexual preference, etc, first time offense =suspension, second time offense = expulsion…” why have an entire class dedicated to “studying” is beyond me…
Our politicians just dont get it.
