Or, how about “physically challenged”. We’re supposed to use that because the term “handicapped” is offensive. Except it isn’t. Someone with no legs in a wheel chair IS handicapped. They can’t walk, which IS a handicap. Referring to them as physically challenged doesn’t ameliorate the situation one bit.
I always wondered how these PC name changes come about. Who decides that “handicapped” is offensive and “physically challenged” is not? (I actually think the latter sounds more demeaning.) Did all the handicapped people get together and have a vote? How do these silly ideas gain traction?
One term I really don’t get is “Native American.” The name “Indian” was never meant to be derogatory – it was simply a mistake (and lots of places/things derive their names from mistakes — it’s an ordinary part of history).
Look up the definition of the word “native.” It refers to where someone was born, *not* where their ancestors were born. If only the Indians can claim to be “native,” then the rest of us were simply never born? I truly think whomever coined the term “Native American” actually had the intention to demean everyone else.

October 5, 2009 at 4:49 PM #464077sdgrrlParticipant
Really sdgrrl, one wonders what else you do with that mouth. I don’t recall anyone expressing those sentiments. Having lived in Chicago, I can tell you that the corruption there s so rife, and so heavy-handed that it is in one’s face all of the time. Most places you don’t have to notice it if you don’t want too, and occasionally find a straight game, not in Chicago.
Casca, sorry if I offend I guess others can say fuck, but not me.
Its not ridiculous to say “fuck Chicago” because of corrupt officials. Well I say “fuck” to all the other places that have corrupt officials. Please condemn me and let the other poster suffer no reprieve. Give me a break and please get off your high horse.

October 5, 2009 at 4:58 PM #464082sdgrrlParticipantI didn’t mean to offend, I felt I was commenting on the ridiculousness of the original poster who wanted to darn an entire city based on a few dirty politicians. I will keep from using foul language and I have never before used that kind of language.
Also, please look at at the beginning of the thread and you will see what i was referencing. I don’t go on this to throw some nasty ‘F’ bombs without provocation.
