If he settled a harassment complaint (or 2) for about 100k and did not actually get some ass in the process, then I am calling him out as a straight up punk…..
This is true. I’m afraid that such a scenario does not speak well of his effectiveness as a innovative businessman or tough negotiator.
It brings to mind the picture of the ineffective career politician so frequently derided by Mr. Cain.
How is he supposed to get “some ass” from someone who doesn’t want it and then get away with sexual harassment instead of rape? The victim would call the police before a lawyer right? Are there cases where the “sexually harassed” actually voluntarily went all the way that don’t get laughed out of court…if the person has the nerve to go there?
November 9, 2011 at 7:53 PM #732578eavesdropperParticipant
…….That said, I don’t really care, because Cain is a terrible Presidential candidate anyways. 9-9-9 is a huge tax increase and wealth redistribution plan, stealing from the poor and giving to corporations. Cain has no coherent policy on social issues; he had a rational moderate stance on abortion that he flipped on when he realized it wouldn’t fly with Republican primary voters.
I, likewise, give the finger to the whole sexual harassment thing, or at least to the incredible overreaction of the press. What is truly disturbing is that this same press has done nothing toward reporting on and documenting Mr. Cain’s absolute unsuitability for this office in both intellect and experience. Watching him in debates and in interviews is like watching Sarah Palin……except Sarah is smarter.
He’s pulled stuff from his ass so often that I’d swear he’s had a larynx surgically transplanted there. Someone asks what he plans to do about healthcare, and he comes out with this long stream of absolute BS made up of terms that he thinks are appropriate. He refers to his “solutions” that are, in reality, “ideas” that are totally without form or substance. If he comes up with a “plan”, it is so extremely broad-based as to be laughable.
Yet, the press, for the most part, has never questioned these very serious shortcomings, either before or following his rise in the polls. I find it indescribably depressing that we have a national political press corps that cannot identify such eloquently and effectively presented characteristics of ineptitude such as those consistently demonstrated by Mr. Cain. Perhaps it is because the savvy and fearless political reporters of yesterday are today’s paid “guest pundits” on completely-one-sided media outlets, and the current political press corps is made up of youthful and inexperienced bloggers who interpret “keen and insightful political analysis” as agreeing or disagreeing with someone else’s paid blog entry.
However, in Mr. Cain’s defense, not much more credit can be afforded the other Republican candidates. Of the eight, only Paul, Huntsman, and Gingrich are appreciably more intelligent, and at the minimum level required of a President; however Paul and Gingrich have problems that outweigh that superiority. Gary Johnson and Buddy Roehmer are both very bright, and have cogent, detailed plans for addressing the issues, but neither has been able to procure a seat at the table. I look at those who have received the vast majority of media attention, and it’s a surreal experience in the absurd – like watching a DC-based Monty Python episode.
November 9, 2011 at 7:54 PM #732577markmax33Guest

The problem is there hasn’t been a President to have a balanced budget and THEREFORE could not lower taxes.
Yes, there was. Clinton, his last 3 years in office. Better than balanced, a nominal surplus in excess of $400 billion his last 3 years, and even ignoring the huge SS surplus in those years, still had a surplus in each of those years. With tax rates higher than they are today. Those pesky facts.
No those pesky facts don’t take into account the federal reserve lowering interest rates and creating the surplus. It had nothing to do with Clinton, just the business cycle. It was short lived as the tech bubble bust a year or two later.
Those pesky facts…

In forming my response, I took the liberty of interpreting (perhaps in error) urbanrealtor’s post as one written tongue-in-cheek style, with a dollop of sarcasm. It was the intent to continue in this vein in my response, using phrases and references often utilized by Mr. Cain to communicate negative or positive qualities. It was not meant to be a serious response, nor was it meant to belittle the seriousness of the charge of sexual harassment.
However, you bring up a salient point that has not been observed (or at least commented upon) by our on-the-job reporters and pundits in Washington, when they listen to Herman Cain (and his erstwhile Marlboro Man campaign manager) insist that the National Restaurant Association paid off Cain’s accusers because “sexual harrassment is very difficult to prove”.
Exactly! Any form of harassment, particularly in the absence of clear-cut physical evidence, is virtually impossible to prove. Lawyers know this, and many will not take a plaintiff’s case if no such evidence is in existence. However, it was up to the PLAINTIFFS in the Cain-related cases to PROVE the charge, not the National Restaurant Association. And one can be sure that the NRA’s corporate attorneys would not have settled even one dollar on any of those women unless they believed that their client was about to be placed in a position of having to DEFEND itself against charges that were supported by compelling evidence.
So, yeah, I’m thinking ol’Herman’s guilty in spades. And coming on the heels of that bizarre campaign advertisement, where he breaks into that “I know something you don’t know” creepy smile at the end, I’m gonna have a real hard time changing my mind.

BUUUUUTTT:
(and this is the part where everybody rolls their eyes in disgust and annoyance)There are 2 types of people who are considered lecherous.
1: Horndogs who get play.
2: Creepy weirdos. And yes there is a spectrum between.
My point is that its really much more sad to be the second. Cain really has the vibe of the second.
I don’t know that and don’t have any inside evidence (other than the news) but that is my gut.
That bums me out.
He was a republican that I actually liked.
Kind of like Romney before he clearly decided to play musical positions.November 9, 2011 at 8:33 PM #732588urbanrealtorParticipant

….Although… The presence of Gloria Allred makes me a bit itchy. Ironically, that makes her somewhat more honest (by not running).

When I saw it on that commercial (before the sex stuff broke), I must say it gave me HUGE pause.
I interpreted that smile as “yeah, I’m a playa.”
It looks like maybe I was right.

3. Don’t be unattractive

I get the sense he would even be a disaster as a wingman. So yeah, I think he did it too. I also think the particular accuser is in fact a bimbo…which makes it all sort of comical.Mr. “never gonna get it” meets job seeking Bimbo. Who needs bread and circuses when you have this?

Eaves: Not enough money in it. And/or notoriety. Although, in a certain light, she’s a slightly more reptilian version of Pelosi.
