A price range would help on this one.
We looked in the Fallbrook area for quite awhile…found some very nice homes on the east side (around Gird Ave + Knottwood Way and near there in any direction for a mile or two) but eventually decided it was just too much of a drive to get anywhere.
Not just work, but movies, restaurants, Lowes, shopping all of our normal activities would take at least a 30 min drive. We decided getting a lot of land and house for the money wasn’t worth all the extra time on the road to us.
And then there were other aspects we didn’t like: septic, in some cases no cable (ie no hi-speed internet), and maintaining a huge property can be a chore or expensive (pick your poison).
It’s all in what is important to you.

I am looking in the sub $800K range. GF and I plan to look around there this weekend and check out that “driving” factor you mentioned. Remoteness has it’s price. Trade-off I guess. An agent said cable was available everywhere (oh, of course). Yardwork? not a problem. Gets me off the computer.
