I am a clean eater and yes, I am superior because I apply knowledge to my own life. What’s wrong with that?
The great thing about narcissists is that they will self identify. It makes figuring things out a lot easier 🙂

Interesting article. I love psychology. Our society doesn’t encourage modesty so why bother? I would however distinguish between confidence and narcissism.
Don’t you think that it’s psychologically telling that evangelicals voted for Trump, the narcissist in chief.

Christians that “get it” just want you to join their team, and you are always welcome to do so. You don’t even have to stop wincing (I kinda do it myself.)
We are supposed to be all about forgiveness. That’s the main point, actually the only point that matters. Everything else is really just details.
Historically so many Christians never got the point, or they got way too caught up in the details.
Today we aren’t much better. But a true Christian does not want you dead. Even though your people were complicit in the torture and unjust execution of God, it turns out he had a quick recovery, and is doing ok. We should let bygones be bygones.
So you’re probably fine. Especially since Muslims are the new scapegoat. Which is funny and sad, since most of them don’t wince when they hear Jesus’ name.

Along with the Romans – and look how fast we were to elevate them to . . . Popes and the like. I always found that odd even though I get the historical path. As a Catholic, I also wonder what Pontius Pilate would have thought if he had known that tens of millions of people would be calling him out every week for thousands of years.

My father in law used to say that nuns generally fell into to two categories – very nice or very mean. There were the ones who perceived faith as a way to elevate the population and those who used it as a way to condemn. I actually see that in almost every profession – teachers (some want to teach, some like being in control of the group), doctors (some want to improve your health, some like being wealthy and perceived as a higher status), lawyers (some like arguing, some like justice), etc. And so it is with Christians (which I intend to include Catholics and all other Christ based religions) – some have seen the light and some perceive it as a weapon to apply against others.
My father in law was a very devout Catholic. You would never have seen him waving flags. But you would have seen him making house calls for the elderly into the 1990s (he was a family doctor/surgeon), writing off bills for people who were short on cash and chatting with people who literally made appointments to see him because they had no one else to talk to. He charged them something like $12 for a 1/2 hour appointment. The turnout at his funeral included a lot of those people – it was very heartwarming.
When is anyone going to accept that what we see in the media is not a representative sampling?

maybe the Christian part is irrelevant then. there are nice people and Jerks. the jesus thing is just anot her vague identifier, like being a republican or being into fishing, or maybe a c osmic insurance policy, or a primitive anti-anxiety medication.
I’m not scared of individual Christians. heck I married one. I like highly moral thoughtful people who believe they will be punished for moral c ode violations.
I just get nervous when people say jesus 2 much

I was also wondering how the Christian part was relevant. I don’t think faith is a prerequisite or even an inducement to doing good.
About what we see in the media, Trump blocked Syrian refugees because the evangelicals don’t want Muslims. Individual Christians do affect policies that result in much less aggregate good.
Remember when the US didn’t allow Jews fleeing the Nazis?
March 7, 2018 at 5:07 PM #809547scaredyclassicParticipantthe volume of jesus stuff coming out of a person’s mouth is inversely proportional to how nice they are.
school prayer advocates terrify me, plus, they’re unchristian…
Matthew 6:5-15 New International Version (NIV)
Prayer
5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.March 7, 2018 at 7:54 PM #809548scaredyclassicParticipant

We all have flaws. Some try to be better – many fail. I have had a surprising number of good theological discussions with my kids (and Constitutional discussions as well.). When my daughter was four she looked up from where she was playing in the sand and said: “Mommy, why do magicians only saw ladies in half?” We have had a lot of good talks.
I think it makes more sense to look at the aspirations than the success rate.
According to Pope Francis: The media only writes about the sinners and the scandals, but that’s normal, because a tree that falls makes more noise than a forest that grows.
March 7, 2018 at 9:57 PM #809550scaredyclassicParticipantwould anyone in their right mind trust any Christian authority figure, including the Pope, to be alone with one’s children for even ten minutes?
HELLLLLL NO!
if not, why would you trust them with their soul?
answer, you know the soul isn’t real, but think the body is real, even though we pretend the soul exists and matters.
hell id trust any random cashier at target before id trust a religious authority figure to watch my kid. call me cynical, but if you want religious authority over others, I assume you are a fucked up person.
7 percent of Australian priests were molestors. cashiers probably much better risk as a group.
maybe the popes right, too much negativity, that’s just 7 perc. nothing to see here. the headline should accentuate the positive, revised, 93 percent of priests restrain themselves from sexual ly assaulting others. a mere 1 in 14 rape kids..
what would it take to lose moral authority? 15 perc. rapists? 45% rapists?
for me, 7 is enough…
but i knew they were all sex fiends back before the scandal broke in the 90s. hell, everyone knew, no one cared, Pope on down.
