Perhaps that is where your rat/mouse infestation came from.
I’m sure it was.

I a little curious about what all the things you consider HOA relevant, Marion. I agree with you on several (greasy stains, I suppose, trash bags on the side of the house, presuming they are visible from the street, etc.) But what do HOA fees have to do with regular trash in the recyclables, and her son talking to the trash collector? How does that behavior impact anyone around her at all? Also, complaining about a totaled car being in the drive-way for “several days” seems a bit unkind. It’s not as if it was there for months. And foster kids? Do HOAs regulated foster care?
I’m not going to argue with some of you, but since you asked i’m going to answer you. Right before I moved in, her 17-year-old foster kid sexually molested the little girl across the street-they moved out. The owner had neglected to tell me this. Nice huh? I was told by the neighbor next door who moved because of “who else”? Of course, HOA’s probably don’t regulate foster care.
About the trash: I have a moral problem with someone putting trash in a black plastic bag and trying to pass if off as “recyclables”. This wasn’t a sometimes ocurrence. She did it every single week. How do I know? No, I didn’t go peeking in her trash cans. There was so much trash in there, the black plastic bag sticking out was visible to anyone and everyone from off the street. The grey trash can is for recycled products. If it was so acceptable Former San Diegan, the waste company would not have stopped her.
About the totaled car? Well, yeah buddy. Several days is too long. She had this cul-de-sac looking like the entrance to a junk yard.
To each his own, I want my community to look nice.
Thank You.
January 29, 2008 at 4:12 PM #144801patientlywaitingParticipantYour problem is that you're too nice. You should have just thrown out the race card, and said something like "It's because I'm asian, isn't it?" 🙂
There is something to be said about the race thing. It's true that minorities are loud. It doesn't bother me (I kinda like the exuberance) but that's what I observe. Â
Travel anywhere in the developing world, and you'll be overwhelmed by sights and sounds — loud music, karaoke, horns, etc… I think the more recent immigrants bring some of that exuberance over here. Â
Compared to most places in the world, America is generally a tame place with more neutral colors and lower decibels. We make up for it in bigness (cars, houses, etc..)Â

January 29, 2008 at 4:12 PM #144806DoJCParticipantI don’t mind paying dues of or around $100 per month IF they are going to good use in the neighborhood. An example of how this can go totally wrong is a friend who lives in LA. His association decided to spend all its money upgrading the entrance of their condo complex so it raised the value of their condos. All fine and good for investors seeking to sell and move up, but bad for people like my friend. His roof leaked and needed immediate attention. Even after he and several other neighbors complained the association ignored them and continued spending on stuff to increase the value of the property, but degraded the actual condos themselves due to neglect and ignorance.
I never want to own a money pit known as a pool. I’ll gladly pay the extra money for a hot tub, gym and pool in the community over spending money on a pool and maintenance costs.

Patiently, what a stereotypical and ignorant statement you just made. You wanna qualify that with the word “some”?
Race does NOT determine a person’s propensity for being loud.
