I am Lindi π
Can’t wait to see what’s new on here every morning!
August 3, 2006 at 11:42 AM #30577AnonymousGuestI’m addicted as well. I signed up so I could submit to this post, but I have been reading along for a while. Happily renting in Sol Beach. Hopefully housing will soon catch up with my income instead of vice versa. I have lived in the same apt for 3 years and have watched the same 4 houses on my street (stevens/valley) sit on the market for months and months. Hoping to catch the bottom end of this correction in a few years, then invest wisely.
It is the information from this post that has helped me convince my girl that we should not get in before we miss the “opportunity of a lifetime’. We relocated from Long Island, NY a few years back so we jumped from one bubble to another. At least here I can park at the beach for free or walk there if I choose. (not an option on LI, even though there is several hundred miles of coast line).
keep coming with the good stuff and I’ll post if anyone even comes to visit the houses in my neighborhood. the open houses stopped awhile ago.
August 3, 2006 at 11:56 AM #30578anxvarietyParticipantI enjoy reading the site.. though I’m not adiccted. I feel that the forum takes quite a bit of energy to post and read.. The format of it doesn’t really fit anything I’m used to – and the font size and colors make it hard for me to read.
I know Rich is busy, but I can’t wait to see an updated more message board like forum π Is one coming? It would make it easier to recognize users if there were avatars and it would be easier to understand post context if there were better quoting and reply functionality. I think the forum usability is sacrificed in it’s ‘style’ – that is, fitting within the width and functionality of the site..
Overall though it’s minor compared to post quality and good users.. it’s really hard to get forums rolling, it requires critical mass – and with a niche subject like this Rich has done an impressive job.
August 3, 2006 at 12:04 PM #30579zkParticipantInteresting comments on the forum format. I actually like the way it’s set up (and I like the colors, too).
August 3, 2006 at 12:15 PM #30581desmondParticipantJust ask my wife!
August 3, 2006 at 1:00 PM #30584PerryChaseParticipantI also like this forum. The format and the colors are just fine by me. I find the site to have an antiquish, newspaperish look to it. It’s a very appropriate look for an academic such as Professor Piggington. I wish there were a stronger Piggington brand with perhaps some interesting and fun FAQs on the character.
August 3, 2006 at 1:50 PM #30585South AustinParticipantI just wonder what Rich did with all the child laborers that used to service the Chrono-Collapsometer.
August 3, 2006 at 2:45 PM #30590anxvarietyParticipantI run a few forums with http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/
It’s cool because you can break stuff into different categories, configure alerts and users can take on more character through diff fonts and avatars.
Sounds like the addicts prefer this format though! π
August 3, 2006 at 3:04 PM #30593VCJIMParticipantI like this format. Some of the others I’ve seen are too cluttered and confusing; I have enough of that in my life already.
August 3, 2006 at 3:10 PM #30594speedingpulletParticipantI like it too, although I don’t often have much to contribute. San Diego’s near enough to me, here in LA, to be of interest. Although I have to admit to going to Patrick, Housing Doom and even craigslist (just for a laugh), too.
Re the website – its fine when I’m on the PC, but when I’m blagging the husband’s laptop it gets a bit frustrating.
Maybe you could put page numbers in the thread menu? Just click on ‘last’ and be taken straight to the most recent poste?
Otherwise its click on the thread, scroll down to the bottom, hit ‘last’ , wait for the page to refresh and scroll down to the last posts. Then backpage, packpage and start again on the next thread. As I said, cool on a PC with a mouse, but time-consuming and fiddly on a laptop with fingers.
August 3, 2006 at 4:15 PM #30597DoofratParticipantI’ll answer for Powayseller:
Yes.
πAugust 3, 2006 at 5:00 PM #30598AnonymousGuestI read here every day even though I don’t have much to add. As a relative newcomer to San Diego, I enjoy reading what you all have to say about the local neighborhoods, schools, housing & job market. I wouldn’t get this information otherwise, and it is all very interesting. I like architecture and construction and I am fascinated by what is happening right now all over the country with the housing situation.
August 3, 2006 at 6:11 PM #30603FormerOwnerParticipantEvery time I tell my wife I’m going to go read the housing bubble/economics blogs she says “you’re obsessed”. I tell her it’s better than smoking, gambling, drinking, or over-eating and it may save our butts. At first, I was interested in the R/E aspects of this blog but, like a lot of other members here, I’ve become very interested in the bigger picture of what’s going on in the national/global economy. Plus, there’s no ticker tape for real estate values, so this blog is one of the best ways to get up-to-the-minute info from those on the street. There are some really smart people (with common sense as well, which hasn’t been that common lately) lurking here and I like all of the different viewpoints on things in addition to the data that people share. The saving our butts part has some truth to it, but the main reason I read these posts every day is really intellectual curiosity. We’re living in interesting times. The US economy is far more entertaining to watch than “So You Think You Can Dance”.
August 3, 2006 at 6:41 PM #30607barnaby33ParticipantAddiction is just such an ugly word, I prefer enthusiast! I’m however pretty safe in predicting my girlfriend would say I’m an addict.
I like the level of intellectual engagement for the most part as well.
Though only technical bugaboo is that once the new posts go beyond the first page, clicking on the new post icon on the forms list page no longer takes you to the newest post you haven’t read.
