Participant
Previously owner got a bright idea in planting trees/shrubs/plants right next to the house. Not only does it wreak havoc on the walls when it comes to watering, can you say bug infestation? Don’t make the same mistake :(
My wife hates the idea of plants right next to the house, too (Maybe it’s a Chinese thing). The rental we’re in right now is a freakin’ jungle. My wife actually persuaded the landlord to tear out a bunch of plants and put concrete in part of the backyard next to the house.
We had a real mouse problem when we were on the canyon before. They would steal dog food from the neighbor and truck it over to our barbecue, where they would store it. And into our garage. It was actually kind of fun waging war on the little bastards. I’m not a hunter/fisher/killer type guy, kinda the opposite, really. But I must admit I enjoyed the strategy/game/battle/victory thing. Same with gophers. Oh, the thrill of chucking a defeated gopher into the canyon after weeks of battle.

Participant
The insiders always used to take them for themselves in many cases flipping them 2 yrs later for a big profit.
Well, unfortunately, this one wasn’t priced for a flip profit. I’ve seen nice lots go for less than what I thought they would, but not this one. Plus, as you said, times have changed, and a lot of people would be scared to try that.

Participant
Seriously though, congratulations on the house, I just mentioned the tick thing because I was so danged surprised. You’ll probably never even see one.
Actually, I got a tick once, too. I’ve been more careful since then and haven’t gotten another one. Although I’m always open to ideas for avoiding them. I read that they hang in the tall grass and then hitchhike on your foot/leg when you walk through the grass. So, among other precautions, I avoid the tall grass when possible.
Flu, I’ve heard coyotes in the canyons lots of times. It seems like less often recently, though. I’ve also seen deer, rabbits, mice, birds, gophers and a whole food chain worth of wildlife out there. I even heard what I’m pretty sure was a bobcat once.

Participant
sorry for the mix up. in retrospect I think it was stckstrader I was thinking about.
You might have been thinking of when I mentioned this lot earlier, and you said that frequently there’s a builder “VIP” or employee or something who will take a premium lot. I was worried about that (I’d seen it happen before, too) right up until they called our name. Fortunately, it didn’t happen in this case.
