I finally bought a house in Carmel Valley; prices there will now tank.

After 5 years of waiting, and just as the tax-incentive-caused rally allowed Pardee to ask just a bit more for their houses, and just before the housing-market bogeymen (shadow inventory, higher interest rates, lack of demand because it was pushed forward by the tax incentive, etcetera) all come out, I finally bought a house.

It’s a real beauty of a lot. The picture doesn’t really do it justice. To the left is more canyon, and to the right is more canyon. They’re huge canyons; that’s Penasquitos Canyon in the background (we have a great view of that canyon which you can’t see in the picture). Almost 270 degrees of canyon around it. 13,000 flat square feet (it looks smaller in the picture, but it’s huge). At 2734 sf, it’s not a huge house, but it’s plenty for us.

I think we paid a little too much, even for where the market is right now, and I’m certain prices will henceforth dive. But, we can afford it and we love it.

We don’t have a ton of money left over for landscaping. Any tips on water-wise landscaping or other ideas for what to put on a big lot would be appreciated.

Hi ZK – First of all, congrats on the home purchase. You’ve been very prudent and despite your humorously self-deprecating take on it, I’m sure it will work well for you.

Re. the images, I am also unable to attach an image to a new forum topic. However, I was able to attach one to a comment — can you try posting a reply/comment and attaching it there? If that doesn’t work you can email it and I can post it. (As for the bug with attaching images to top-level topics, I will just have to hope they fix it in the next module upgrade).
