ParticipantBecause you also have the normal washer drain on the line, you should be able to tee (don’t use the straight cornered tee, use the curved corner tee) into it for the floor drain. It would mean pulling up the floor linoleum or tile.. alternately going up through the garage ceiling and cutting into drywall from underneath and using a ceramic hole bit for the floor. I would put a pan and drain into that because you can’t guarantee the slope of the floor. The floor will also not have any ‘borders’ to contain the spill and direct it to the drain. The normal drain should already have a vent associated with it. The other question would be where the trap is located.

Participant

My original post is actually about congress and the senate. The fact that Republican legislators consistently vote as one single mind.
Not supported by facts in evidence and both parties are presently trying to force their elected members to vote along party lines – Democrat and Republican both.
That response would have been a little more substantial if it had some…um, facts.
Sorry, I didn’t realize how firmly the rose colored glasses were ‘implanted’. Try starting at “Blue Dog Coalition”.. and work outwards. (Google would be a good start with those keywords)
What’s unique about the Republican party we have today is that their only purpose is to obstruct.
They both obstruct and filibuster, if it suits their purpose. Just because the Republicans do it on bills you personally want passed doesn’t make it any different than when the Democratic Party does it on bills you don’t want passed. Try starting with “Democrate filibuster”.. and work outwards. Realize that the numbers you are pointing to are for recent items when the Democrats controlled House and Senate. Try looking for when Republicans controlled House and Senate. The “Filibuster” is the only way that a minority party vote can effect changes because it requires a (3/5th or 2/3s depending upon conditions) vote to stop as opposed to a simple majority. This was intentionally placed as a legitimate behavior by the founding fathers because they were worried about “Abuse of power by the majority”..
The other thing that can happen with a Filibuster is to decide to “move to other business”.. which puts the debate/bill etc on hold. The majority party can decide to do this to get other important business done and then get back to the item being Filibustered.

Nothing like a strawman argument inStewart then played a reel of clips showing conservative pundits and commentators insisting that Obama release everything from his college grades to Michelle Obama’s Princeton senior thesis to the President’s long-form birth certificate”
Birthcert is relevant because of requirements of office, but all the other is basically irrelevant. The extreme demands from either side are irrelevant and should be treated as such.
Releasing tax returns isn’t a rule, but it is a convention, and conventions change. The modern standard is to basically full disclosure once a candidate is on the ticket:
I was not cherry picking.. The question then becomes: Are you choosing ‘conventions’ because it suits your opinion and the opinion of your Political Party? Should the opinion of your Political Party change on the subject of released material.. then would it be the opinion that the ‘standard’ for releases now change? Why should it be the sole opinion of one political party that guides ‘convention’? I was demonstrating that the history was to NOT show that info. There is a point where releasing info can cause risk to the individual at the same time becoming more of a ‘entertainment sideshow’ to the real issues of matter. In Terms of Romney’s tax returns; it passed IRS muster, and IRS is looking at all tax returns above $100k of income (Advantages of computers these days). I know because they corrected a stupid math error of mine on one year. I back checked the other years and no errors. My 1040s are fairly boring, no special deductions to raise flags. If you don’t like the tax laws.. get them changed. Don’t blame someone who tries to take as many tax advantages while operating within the law.
However his success as being effectively a business broker just won’t sit well with the American people in a time where business “hustlers” are perceived as the source of many of the country’s woes.
True, but here is the problem in there. Instead of making the country less favorable to businesses, we make it more.. then companies may not be looking to offshore. This is the true source of the problem. As I mentioned earlier, several actions.. including the action relative to the Unions and Bondholders with respect to GM’s bankruptcy, have unintended consequences. It is easier to blame a ‘business broker’ than to try to understand why it is more effective for a business to outsource than to keep operating within the country. All the Business broker does is find the most effective use of capital. Again.. I repeat the question I made earlier:
Berkshire Hathaway was a specific business that did something before Warren Buffet took ownership. After he took ownership, all the jobs went away.. and it became a holding company. What was that business

Participant
Just to show what religious nuts some ranks of the Republican party have become, they are now accusing Huma Abedin for being part of an effort of the Muslim Brotherhood to infiltrate the government.
She’s married to a Jewish guy for God’s sake!!

You have nuts in both parties.. take off the rose colored glasses. Remember, the article even points it out, McCain, a Republican is defending her by striking back at those claims and stating they are “an unwarranted and unfounded attack on an honorable woman”.ucodegen
Participant

Yeah, right.
The purchase of political influence is the core problem in our government today. There’s plenty of it on both sides: corporations on the right, unions on the left.
Well, the unions have been getting weaker for about 4 decades. How come the democrats are such failures?
Not supported by facts at hand. If guards @ prisons in California can exceed $100k/yr with full benifits, GM Union Autoworkers can almost do the same, San Diego Port Authority fork lift operators get nearly $140k/yr.. seems to contradict the statement. An interesting side note: Union contributions to Political Parties do not show up as a large contribution from the Union. It shows up as individual contributions from the Union members, even if the Union member is not a member of the political party selected by the Union. There was an attempt to pass a law that allowed Union members to select out of the political contribution.. but last I remember, it had not been passed.

How do you lefty’s deal with pen smears.
I’m not a lefty, but I have seen how the do it.. the paper is turned 90 degrees to the right, and they write towards the body with the hand bent at an angle. Looks kind of wierd.. but works.ucodegen
Participant
speaking of watches. anyone know where/how to replace the glass crystal on a watch? I got my kid a watch for bday and she managed to crack it while doing the monkey bars.
The watch is like $20, so might not be worth it to fix it.
Not worth it to fix it unless you do it yourself.. which may require specialized tools (presses). Might want to get her one of those sports watches for now.. since it sounds like she is a bit active.. just pick up ‘pink’ if she is into the girly things.

Participant
agree the tax return thing is all politics. hence Romney needs to just release the tax info and take a hit for a couple of weeks and move on. otherwise this thing is going to keep haunting him. one big problem is you got the ghost of George Romney’s quote “One year could be a fluke, perhaps done for show.” how do you fight against that?
The problem is that it opens the whole thing to a fishing contest. Romney makes most of his income from Investments. 2008 was a very bad year for investments and any smart tax planner would use the losses of 2008 to cancel any gains in 2009 and after if possible. I think the Obama campaign is trying to bring up that Romney didn’t pay taxes in 2009 (because of investment losses). This is likely to play well people who don’t understand saving and investing, and will make a good ‘sound bite’ and diversion from the facts and presidential performance. The problem is that the previous election, very few Democrat Presidential hopefuls revealed their tax returns. Almost all of the Republican hopefuls revealed 2 years. One needs to ask: What is the real point of this requirement?
In the previous election, Obama brought President Bush to task on his record. It is now Obama’s turn to face his record and he does not want to.
in the developing world, government policies is vital for the economy. in the developed world, government policies at best changes the slope of the up and down sine wave.
so it really isn’t about economy and jobs.
I would have to disagree with you on these. The statement that gov policies don’t matter in the developed world does not stand up to facts nor is supported by evidence. A simple change in government policies and create or destroy entire businesses in the developed world. NOTE: Creation of all of the security businesses, TSA etc. NOTE: The overturn of standard business bankruptcy rules in the GM BK, and how it has now caused lenders to not want to pick up corp bonds… making financing tighter for any businesses.
Talk about fishing expeditions. Going back to 1992 – two decades – to find a counter-example?
Last time I checked, we don’t vote for the next president every year… So I had to go back through records. I also brought up that Hillary Clinton did NOT reveal any tax records on her run, while the Repub presidential hopefuls did. Now you decide that you yourself have the right to limit it to party selects? sorry, the world doesn’t work that way. If you look through history, you will find that few presidents ever revealed that info:
http://www.taxhistory.org/www/website.nsf/Web/PresidentialTaxReturns/Why is this new thing becoming the norm?? because it diverts from the facts.
Romney’s financial situation is relevant, because his business experience is in a field that provides dubious benefits to the American economy and the middle-class American worker.
This could be a valid subject EXCEPT that his tax records will not reveal that. Instead, go after the history of Bain Capital. Also remember that Warren Buffet closed the original company that was Berkshire Hathaway.. and all those jobs went away. Do you remember what that company was?

Participant
Talking about disclosure, we have Mitt Romney who refuses to disclose anything more than 2010 and 2011 tax returns. I smell a rat.
.. really?? ok, that means that Clinton is a real rat because he did NOT release any tax info before his presidency – president in 1992.. first released tax report – 1992.How about Jimmy Carter.. presidency 1977, first released tax report 1977.
Presidential/Vice Presidential candidates: McCain, Palin released 2 years of tax reports previous to their run – which is the same number of years that Romney is releasing. Romney is also releasing info from their Trust, which I suspect no politician has. Hillary Clinton released no tax info during her presidential run…
Just can the partisan crap. This is a fishing expedition by the democratic party because Obama’s record is not playing to the public very well, so lets distract the public.
It is and always has been.. the Economy and Jobs.

Participant
I don’t want to spend thousands trying to build my own raid machine and a temperature controlled room to store those data when I can have unlimited back up for <$100 for 2 years.
Temperature controlled rooms were needed a long time ago, before the sealed hard drives were invented. Now they are not needed except for large compute clusters, particularly of the super-computer type. Backup storage is also not unlimited as I showed the cost. Only no-cost under a certain size.
My point is, that's just the way the industry is heading. You can either embrace it and operate under the assumption that your data have already been compromised and take steps to make sure you're protected under that circumstance. Or, you can try and fight the trend. I pick the former, but you're welcome to pick the later if you like. I won't call you dumb, like spdrun does to those who doesn't do what he would do.
Through my years of experience in this business.. I have seen all statements of how things are 'going to turn out', only to have them refuted as things don't really turn out this way. If you noticed on another page, I have been programming computers/working on them/admin since 1975. Most people who write publications on how things are going to turn out, have a small fraction of that experience. As for calling anyone 'dumb'.. I don't care. I think that name calling reflects more upon the caller than the callee.. Particularly if it is done to someone who has a bit of experience in the subject.
I use Flickr and Facebook as well. For things that I actually wish to have public, not anything else.
Ditto, particularly the latter. Flickr's 'security' is almost non-existent. I used to be able to get to pages if I knew one of the ref-paths to it, even when the top level was made 'private'. Participant

I don’t either. But you mentioned several hundred TB of data per person — I did not.
I have 600gb plus today. Crossing over 1tb soon. There’s nothing on the market today for laptop and tablet that can handle that kind of data.
Look up Western Digital Scorpio Blue.. it is 1TB for notebooks. The tablet is going to be more of a problem. Its power and size footprint necessitates SSD.Linky: http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1682/1/
Even more 1TBs.. http://www.nextag.com/1tb-internal-2__5-sata-laptop-hard-drive/stores-html

Participant

Lastly, if being 5 years behind means actually having control of what software you can install, and having control of your data (not having it synced to the cloud) then I’m all for the past 🙂 We’re moving from personal computing to corporate computing, and that’s disturbing.
I think you’re a dying breed. Linux will be your only option (assuming Linux won’t try to follow the market down the Cloud services road). I personally fully embraces the Cloud services and it seems like all the major ecosystems are heading that way too.
Well… he is not the ‘only’ one of that ‘dying’ breed. Though lot of ‘ecosystems’ are heading that way, it cedes control of your data to some ‘cloud’ provider… who then controls your data, and may end up deciding how to use that ‘Facebook style’ at some later date when they need to realize some income. Besides, why use the ‘Cloud’ in the first place.. 1TB now fits in my shirt pocket! and I can pull data from that device faster than I can from the ‘Cloud’.
I guess the millions of users who uses Mint and Quicken are idiots. I assume you go to the physical bank and deal with physical cash then. No online banking for you? I’m not as tin foil hat as you are.
Logic fallacy.. Straw Man Argument. If you want secure banking, electronic tends to be the more secure. .. want to guess my crypto key? There is over $100k behind it.. wait 1 day and the key is different. BTW: it is AES based. For secure banking, always use ‘push’ and avoid ‘pull’. I schedule my bank to send out the payments. I don’t have my payments done by the payee, ie Sprint, on a ‘pull’ basis. Now, if I don’t want a trace.. I do use cash. 😉
You sound worse than my parents. Maybe more like my grand parents.
Maybe your grandparents weren’t so dumb after all, then :)
Touche’
Good luck trying to back up those data. Oops, I just drop my iPad. There goes my photos, videos, etc. Also, good luck trying to keep all of those devices safe. Oops, I just lost my iPad. There goes all the personal data I have on that iPad.
I wonder what the price of 1TB of storage is on the ‘Cloud’… https://developers.google.com/storage/docs/pricingandterms Looks like $120/month. Almost the cost of a 1TB portable hard drive for just 1 month of ‘Cloud’ storage. I have 4.25TB of storage @ home with backup of critical located somewhere else. That would be costing me around $400/month on a ‘Cloud’.
That would be impossible. I have over 600GB of photos and videos today and most of those were taken with 2MP cameras, etc. Those data will only get exponentially larger with the 20+MP cameras and 4k camcorders. It’s impossible to have a tablet that have several hundreds of terabytes that would be needed to store all the photos and videos I would have over the next 10 years.
You have not been paying attention to the progression of storage capacity on hard drives and SD. My 1TB pocket drive is obsolete already. Current Tech is 1.5TB. Looks like it is following Moore’s Law. Six months from now 2TB or more. Before you bring up security — the drive has hardware AES encryption, and it is enabled.
BTW: How about this for those ‘Cloud’ oriented..
