ParticipantUnfortunately, now our soldiers overseas are barricaded behind high walls. (Even during the Vietnam War our soldiers were well loved by the local kids and people. They could mingle with the local population.)
OT, but will address: Our soldiers are also able to mingle with the local population. As a matter of fact, one of the members of the local population warned a base that Al Qaida was planning an attack on the base (This was on one of the more recent attacks). The reason for the barricade is because Al Qaida member are willing to blow themselves up to achieve the goal and don’t care about civilian casualties. This is not a point of view shared by the Viet Cong.

ParticipantI think that the Peace Prize was given to Obama for who he is, what he represents and what he’s done.
Let see..
Who he is – first US black president.
What he represents – demonstrates that a black person in the US could become president (even with some radical ideology behind him)
What he has done – really nothing (voted present most of the time while in the senate), he was nominated just a few weeks into his term. He has continued many of the policies that Bush left behind, that the Democrats were assailing, but those same policies are supported by the Democrats now Obama is in office. This breaks down to being nominated for the first US black president and that he demonstrates that a black person in the US could become president. Its not a bad thing, but really not worthy of a Noble peace prize.

ParticipantThis country sure has a bunch of Obama-haters. Seems like “the right” isn’t happy unless he and his policies fail miserably so they can say “I told you so.”
While I am surprised that he won, people don’t have to crap all over him for winning it. It’s not like he was campaigning for the damn thing. They just gave it to him.
I’m not crapping on Obama for winning, I am crapping on the Noble committee for awarding it to him. Every time the Noble committee uses the award to purely political ends, it lessens what the award means. I also think that is really what most of the posters are doing. You can’t campaign for it, you get nominated by someone and downselected to award.
Obama even stated that he did nothing to deserve the award and that there are others more deserving.
