ParticipantInteresting. Star results came out 2 weeks ago… which I guess is the basis for the api.
(see: http://piggington.com/ot_star_test_2011_results_are_out)It’s interesting to dive into the different data by sub groups.
Here’s the link for the state website.
http://api.cde.ca.gov/reports/page2.asp?subject=API&level=School&submit1=submitFinally got my kids’ individual STAR results in the mail yesterday. (San Diego Unified is super slow). It’s interesting to break down the scores… shows the areas that need work.
API isn’t the end-all/be-all.
Our neighborhood school, Curie, still scores very well. (943 down from 950 last year). Despite this bright and shiny score we’re stilling pulling one son out and moving him to a school that has worse scores, Hawthorne. (826, up from 794 last year).
It’s the teachers and parents that really make the learning experience good or bad.

ParticipantFinding houses for rent is harder than finding apartments.
Craigslist is still probably your best bet. You just have to check often.

I love fish… but haven’t eaten Tilapia since watching the “Dirty Jobs” episode about sewage water treatment. In fact I don’t eat any kind of farm raised fish anymore.UCGal

In this thread I’ve seen no discussion around the possibility that all these “re-financiers” get dropped to a 4% loan, and then instead of spending the money on mass consumption (stimulating) they instead keep paying the same payment and pay down/off their mortgage ASAP?Yes, yes, I get the ‘can’t change human nature to spend see sdr new car’ bit, but maybe being that close to the edge for so long changed a majority of them into wanting out of the whole debt trap thing and actually owning the house. If they are so far underwater and simply want out, then they should have strategic defaulted a long time ago.
Assuming this is worked out and placed into production, I’m thinking it might not have the effect they are looking for.[/quote]
It’s what I did when I re-fi’d a while back. Actually – even worse… I upped my payment to pay it off even sooner. (Only a few years left. Woot woot.)
Clearly, I must hate America.
