Perhaps SDHS does not have a collective API score this year because it has divided up into these smaller “niche” schools.
This happened a few years back. It’s got 6 schools within the overall school old San Diego HS, and has since 2004.
School of Business (664)
School of Communications (544)
School of International Studies (873)
School of LEADS (663)
School of Science and Technology (729)
School of The Arts (629)Obviously the International Studies one stands out from a test performance point of view.

Poway – Poway Unified 854 tie
Bonita Vista – Sweetwater Un 851
La Jolla – SD Unified 849
Mira Mesa – SD Unified 846
Olympian – Sweetwater Union 845
Eastlake – Sweetwater Union 833I didn’t look them all up so let me know if I missed anything here.
Did you exclude charter schools (which are still public.)?
Some SD Unified Charter schools scored very well:
Preuss: 899
San Diego International Studies: 873
Kearny International Business: 860I know Preuss limits who can attend based on meeting demographic statistical needs. But I’m pretty sure that any student can apply to go to San Diego HS or Kearny.
I see Beatrix already mentioned her daughter’s school.

ParticipantIt’s not just public schools. I’ve heard similar things about some of the higher end private schools (Frances Parker, La Jolla Country Day).
There are idiot parents everywhere. And unfortunately, they often raise idiot children.
Our job as parents is to teach kids that life isn’t fair, and how to deal with that. And how to deal with bullies and idiots.
I hope your daughter’s school experience improves.

ParticipantHere’s what I did yesterday.
Like TemekuT – I’m a fan of the dog whisperer principles… so walked the dog before work – 1 mi., Walked with a friend at lunch 1.5 mile. Walked the dog in the evening 1.5 miles.
I’m one of those overweight obese people – but I’ve dropped some weight, slowly, since we got the dog. I call it the wonder-dog diet.
Plus my dog loves the long walks twice a day.

ParticipantInteresting. Star results came out 2 weeks ago… which I guess is the basis for the api.
(see: http://piggington.com/ot_star_test_2011_results_are_out)It’s interesting to dive into the different data by sub groups.
Here’s the link for the state website.
http://api.cde.ca.gov/reports/page2.asp?subject=API&level=School&submit1=submitFinally got my kids’ individual STAR results in the mail yesterday. (San Diego Unified is super slow). It’s interesting to break down the scores… shows the areas that need work.
API isn’t the end-all/be-all.
Our neighborhood school, Curie, still scores very well. (943 down from 950 last year). Despite this bright and shiny score we’re stilling pulling one son out and moving him to a school that has worse scores, Hawthorne. (826, up from 794 last year).
It’s the teachers and parents that really make the learning experience good or bad.
