Do not engage with her.
I agree with CE – the email should reaffirm that you made a good choice for your life by breaking up with her.If you respond, you’ll get dragged back into the crazy zone – and no good can come of it. Do you expect her to accept facts and rational discussion? Based on her past history, that’s not going to happen. Continue to keep your distance and no contact.
Block/unfriend/whatever her on Facebook. No need for her to have access to your life.

ParticipantI don’t need smart lightbulbs. But we have been phasing over to LED and have seen a drop in the power bill. (we targeted the most used fixtures first.)
Not sure why I need a lightbulb that can flash, change colors, etc, though.

ParticipantSeveral years ago, my husband got popped for a rolling stop at a red light. He was going to fight it (the picture they sent clearly showed him looking left for traffic, apparently stopped.) But the ticket also had a link to VIDEO.
He totally rolled the stop. Hard to argue and fight the ticket when he was caught on video camera.
Before you figure it all out – check the video. Most of the city of San Diego red light cams also do video.
His ticket was at the intersection of Aero and Murphy Canyon.

In that article it said that as of Wednesday the districts plan was to paint a red cross on it to make it less menacing. LMAO.
Why in the world would a school district need a “Mine Resistant Ambush Protected” vehicle…. There are land mines in San Diego? The SDUSD Police think they’ll be ambushed?
I was talking to my husband about it – he said he’d be more worried about Mimes than Mines. LOL.

Participantwow. My kids would love it if that were the school bus. They go to a magnet in SDUSD, and the bus is old, no AC, and pretty typical for a school bus.
As far as the district having a police department… I went to school in SDUSD back in the 60’s and 70’s…even back then there was an officer on campus of my high school. (His name was Gino… everyone liked him.) He was there to do the random locker inspections (looking for pot), and bust the kids in the parking lot smoking out… (My school, my graduating class, was the basis for Fast Times… so pot was the issue back in the late 70’s.).
I would be very surprised if there wasn’t a district officer at every high school in this very large district.
But that tank pictured – that’s ridiculous. Are we in a police state?

Participant
Some lame reasoning not to move so far:
“Have a nice day”
“Friends want to move back, but can’t”- (actually this is good reason to move-it proves it is too expensive in the first place)I encourage anybody to improve their life and if moving does that than move. After you live in a place you become so used to everything that you can’t see (or don’t want to see) what is going on. California is just not worth it, at least if you are young and willing to put the effort in to better yourself. I loved California, but after moving I have really seen what it is like to live elsewhere and just how much better your life can be.
Wow. I have lived in 4 states. I’m obviously not afraid to move. I did well in a few other states… but not in Georia. I think I stated that in my post – that WA state and PA state were fine. But something about Georgia was very hard to adjust for me. Perhaps it was the being the victim of crime 4 times in less than 4 months. Perhaps it was the fairly surface level racism. Or perhaps it was the sweetness/backstabbing. I presented a viewpoint.
I’m not suggesting Kev not move… I’m suggesting he has his eyes wide open before he makes a move.
But if you want to call me lame… that’s your right.
Have a nice day. 🙂

ParticipantI had bp of 110/68 the other day and was told it was “excellent”.
I know age plays into it as well… tends to rise a bit as you get into your 40’s and up. (I was 110/65 consistently through my 30’s… then it started being more like 125/85)
I agree that the change in “standards” is probably related to a push by big pharma. I will *never* go on cholesteral or bp medicine unless there is a specific underlying condition they can thoroughly explain. (They still can’t explain *why* high cholesteral is bad – just the statistical risk.) Fortunately, my cholesteral tends to be low, also.

ParticipantI moved to Atlanta for a job. It was not a good fit. Atlanta is, indeed, deep south in many ways. Confederate flags and gun-racks in pickups.
They say the weather is moderate – that means hot and sweaty in the summer requiring 100% air conditioning, and cold/frosty in the winter – freezing rain, snow, sleet, frozen pipes. And the locals do not know how to drive if there is snow/ice/sleet. Schools shut down for a week because of 2 inches of snow the time I was there.
It’s also high crime. Maybe this has changed, but it was definitely high crime when I was there. My car was broken into twice in the less than 4 months I lived there. I talked to coworkers, and they told me the “trick” was to leave your car unlocked so the thieves didn’t have to break the window to get in and steal your stuff. In other words – there will be thieves… but you can limit the damage they cause. I also had a package stolen off my front porch, and what I suspect would have turned into a mugging if my neighbor hadn’t come out. I lived a few blocks from Piedmont park – in an expensive area.
My biggest issue was the two-faced sugary sweetness they call southern hospitality. If you’re perceived as a yankee – they won’t like you. They will be SWEET to your face, while stabbing you in the back.
In CA we vapidly wish each other “have a nice day” – but we kind of mean it. It’s superficial, but not mean. There, you worry about poison in the sweet tea if they’re nice to you. They are sweet to your face, but mean behind your back. It’s hard to describe, but tangible.
I’ve lived in 4 states (CA, WA, PA, and GA). I got along great, socially in the other 3… but GA was too much for me…
Just one woman’s experience.

Participant1) A great family that mostly isn’t annoying. (I have an 11 yo and 13 yo… so “mostly” is doing pretty darn good.
2) A paid off mortgage.
3) Rental income.
4) Free books from the library.
5) cheap college classes through the community college to challenge myself.
6) kids that seem to be focusing on academics.
7) the BEST dog in the world, courtesy of the San Diego County shelter. (Seriously, we scored big in the doggy adoption lottery.)
8) grateful to be living in a place that I can take the dog for a walk on the beach most mornings. (The dog loves it too – the beach is “doggy disneyland” with all the smells, other dogs, birds to try and chase.)

Participant1. Traffic (especially in Mira Mesa and 805 south in the evenings.) This was a contributing factor in my retirement.
2. Shoes (have to agree with Scaredy on this.)
3. Kids that have selective listening.
4. Ants. (We’ve been invaded… time to get Borax soaked cotton balls out.)

ParticipantWas it already in an accepted offer/under contract when you made your offer? If so, I think you’re out of luck.

ParticipantZillow does look different. Don’t know if anyone bought them. I have no idea what algorithm they use… I just checked my house – it’s “zestimate” is very high (inaccurate, IMO). They also show a wierd dip in the last 30 days, then almost instant recovery. That’s true for a couple of my neighbors as well. I think it’s when the house for sale across the street went pending.
As far as rents – we got a big increase in rent with our new tenant a few months ago… but that’s because we no longer are offering “family discount”. (It’s good for the pocketbook to get market rent.) Our rental is unusual so hard to comp to other places…
