Participant
And, I’m sorry, most every person I know of reasonable means would be at least a little bummed if their home value fell in half (okay, a lot bummed).
half off peak price or half off purchase price?
I agree, 99% of folks would be bummed if it’s the latter…
But if you purchased years ago, for much less, then half off peak doesn’t really matter since that’s not what you paid… unless, of coures, you had cashed out equity as the price was rising.

ParticipantInteresting tool. I liked the interface.
I looked at my ‘hood – and noticed it’s missing at least one active listing.

(I’ve been following this one because it started as the same model as our house – but has been added onto and upgraded. Their lot is a bit smaller, but still large. I think they’re easily $150k overpriced – so I’ve been tracking it. That $150k isn’t pulled from my butt… It’s based on comps and the appraisal we had done for a refi in the past couple months. 2 months into the listing I wonder if they’ll drop the price at all.)

Participant
Yes, we do agree on the above.
But I would not knowingly overpay for a house just to have the privilege of amortizing the cost over a long period of time, because that would detract from my enjoyment.
The art of the deal can bring as much enjoyment as the ownership of the asset itself.
Some folks have argued that it’s OK to overpay and that a generation in future, it won’t matter any more.
I think you’ve made it very clear that you would not overpay. But why do you get aggressive about any purchase made by others? What do you hope to gain?
Ok – you will only buy a house that’s dipped in gold and wrapped up in $100 bills. Why get angry at folks who don’t have the same criteria?
AN is happy with his purchase. It penciled out for him, even if it didn’t for you. Why get so angry at him?

ParticipantI have to admit I’m confused. Probably because what Palin is saying is confusing.
She announced she’s resigning at the end of the month… Then a few days later, on Twitter, says her decision is to not run for reelection..Critics are spinning, so hang in there as they feed false info on the right decision made as I enter last yr in office to not run again….

http://twitter.com/AKGovSarahPalin/status/2483026282Is she resigning before the end of her term? Or is she just choosing not to run for reelection.
If nothing else – she should get her message consistent.
