ParticipantI’ve had experiences with banks and with brokers.
My first purchase – back in the early 90’s (yes, I’m old) I financed with WAMU – back when WAMU was a local bank in the NorthWest states. (I lived in WA at the time.) It was a good experience, good communication with the bank, etc.
I’ve had 1 ‘meh’ experience with a broker, when I bought in PA. He got it done, but wasn’t super communicative.
I’ve had 1 AWFUL experience with a broker – when we bought our current home. She lost our paperwork multiple times, she tried to not honor the agreed fees noted on the truth in lending statement. I found out afterwards she had a drinking problem and was on a bender when my loan *should* have been closing.
I’ve had one pain-free excellent experience with a broker… that’s my refi from earlier this year with Sheldon (HLS). He got it done. He communicated. He didn’t push (we had a lien issue to clear up first.)
but to me – it comes down to price… The total costs – fees, the interest rates, etc. I’m cheap.

ParticipantI agree with the previous post to use your ATM card when you get there. Also using your charge card will get you a better exchange rate for purchases than converting US Dollars to Euro cash.
Make sure you let your bank (ATM) and charge card companies know you’ll be going to Europe. Fraud departments sometimes look at activity overseas as potential fraud and lock the card… this can be a big hassle if you’re overseas trying to call and get them to unlock the card. It doesn’t happen often… but it has happened to friends of mine so I take the time to call before trips.

$150/sf!!! This is a huge home at 40% off 2005 purchase price. The listing price alone has been reduced by 22% in the last 2 months. UNBELIEVABLE.
Any Pigg updates on this subdivision?[/quote]
They want out – so they’re dropping the price. The remarks suggest it’s a short sale – so it’s not their money they’re losing when they lower the price.Friends of mine did a short sale in Escondido… They’d bought at the peak then the husband lost his job earlier this year. They kept lowering the price till they got interest. Not sure if it sold or went to trustee sale. (Nothing was recorded which makes me think it went back to the bank.) They’re now back to renting.

ParticipantNotice of Defaults (NOD) are recorded in the county they are issued. I assume you have your landlords name. Plug it into the recorded document search and see what it comes up with.
http://recorder.co.clark.nv.us/oncorewebecommerce/Search.aspx
Of course he might own the property in an LLC or corporate name – you can figure that out by plugging in your parcel # (Click on parcel # on the menu on the left.) You can get your parcel # by plugging in your address on Zillow – it’s under the info about the home.
If you think your landlord has stopped paying, I’d make it a habit to check the county records once a week. If you bookmark the link it takes less than a minute.
You can see if your landlord paid their property taxes here
http://trweb.co.clark.nv.us/Public records are our friends. 😉
