ParticipantMy big gripe is all the back story stuff being shown when they could be showing actual events. In the 90’s I lived up in WA state, just across the border from Vancouver – it was great because I could tune away when Bob Costas was rambling on or Jim McCay was doing some heartfelt story about some Olympian – and I could watch the 3 Canadian channels I got over the air. Allowed me to see the non-American athletes. The coverage on NBC seems to focus on very few athletes with excessive filler.
Not sure if curling should be an Olympic event – it’s like bocce ball on ice… but it’s fun to watch the strategy involved…
Ice dancing should NOT be an Olympic event… It’s right up there with rhythmic gymnastics in the summer Olympics. Pretty, but not Olympic.

ParticipantWhen I was trying to figure out a financial plan to meet our goals I used Quicken… I had already been using quicken to track spending – but it’s got a planning section – you can set up your goals (kids college, retirement, etc.) It allows you to “what if” based on various saving scenarios.
I found it really useful. As an older parent with young kids – I’m looking at college concurrent with retirement – not a typical scenario… So I was able to ensure I was saving properly to cover both major goals.
I agree with the advice that Russell gave – to have friends who don’t spend money… It’s good advice. Use them as examples. I use my spender friends as examples of how NOT to live… Seeing their stress makes me clamp onto my money even tighter.

Participant
UCGal, The owner dropped the price because there was no reaction from the market at the initial set price. So I respectfully disagree that the posted price is appropriate give the location and lack of square footage(total size) of the property.
FWIW – I wasn’t trying to suggest that the posted price was appropriate… I was looking at your statement that the agent was unwilling to lower the price… when in fact – the owner had lowered it 30k.
Yes, good observation on the location. That’s why I am having a hard time understanding why the agent will not lower the asking price. I believe it should be listed at least 20K lower. Any other observations on the house?
If I suggested that the current asking price was fine, I apologize… Not my intent. I have no idea what that house is worth. It’s not in any of the areas I’m tracking closely. I’m not suggesting one way or the other on whether this is priced appropriately.
Just wanted to straighten that out.

ParticipantI doubt AAA or Amica will touch it. Both operate under the prefered risk catagory – and don’t write policies in fire zones. We tried to get Amica to quote us – they refused. (University City – above 52- so canyon adjacent.) AAA only agreed to give us a quote because my father (who sold us the house) had them AND it was a family transaction… they would not have given us a quote if I were buying from a stranger.
When we needed a construction policy, when we were building our granny flat, AAA refused. So we had a separate policy from Farmers. Farmers seemed much more willing to write policies. So we had two policies – AAA for our home, Farmers for the course of construction policy. Now we just have AAA for both – but Farmers was there when we needed them.
I would definitely talk to Farmers ins. – the agent we used was Scott Field in Mission Valley.
