UCGal, I am very sorry to hear that about your family. Could have been a combination of genetics and external factors.
I don’t disagree- cancer runs on both sides of the family. I had myself tested for the BRCA gene (negative thank goodness.) It’s slightly worse than 3 out of 5 people dying of cancer. Both my brother and father had 2 separate, unrelated malignancies. My dad beat prostate cancer only to get multiple myeloma 10 years later. My brother beat melanoma, only to get a very aggressive (and obscure) neuroendocrine carcinoma 20 years later. But you’re right – genetics is probably more likely. Small family and 2 cousins (out of 3) have had cancer. 3 of 4 grandparents died of cancer. Lots of indications it’s genetic. That said – the power lines I pointed to are more than neighborhood lines – they are the main trunks. You can see them on this google map…

ParticipantI lived on Canning till age 4. (about 2 blocks from the first link, the Mt. Ariane houe.)
The only caveat I’d have about that location is the power lines that run behind the houses across the street.
Not sure how you feel about power lines. I’m nervous given the fact that 3 family members (who all lived on Canning for 2 years longer than me) died of cancer. Only my sister and I are still alive/cancer free. It’s not scientific – strictly anectdotal…

My and MaLo are looking for a place very shortly. Like next month! Keep your eyes out for a nice rental for me!
I was think Bay HO or Park or Clairemont or UC.
Perfect for commutes and within striking distance of water activities!
If you see something lovely I will give you a Ben Ra’s finder fee!

Bay HO / Bay park is a cool place to rent. Love the views, but you get tired of not having a yard due to the sloped lots so it’s nice to rent, then get out.
Not buying ? Check out this very cool little spot in Bay Ho. It is a terraced series of 1-story houses. Houses are only on 1 side of the street and, I belive, no 2nd stories allowed.
This way, you can always see over your neighbors to the bay. A little pricey, and there is no big, flat back yard, but it is a very cool little area.
I rarely see anything for sale in this little section, so this is a pretty interesting opportunity – if you want to call “buying a house in a long stretch of no-growth at best” an opportunity π

Two comps down the hill on Conner suggest this price may be a bit high.
I have family that lives on one of those streets. House was purchased over 30 years ago… and owner has NO intention of selling to anyone but family. It’s a neat little area. Great views of the bay and (on a non-hazy day) the ocean…
I’ve been to many a family gathering there – enough yard to host 50 or so people… and have at least half be outside.

Really there are no bad pits… Just owners! But the bad PR is here to stay.I love dogs but even around pits I am cautious because YOU NEVER KNOW what the owner has taught that dog to be.
This is so true. Example – I was at dog beach in OB with friends (one of whom had a dog.) Two pitbull puppies came over. They were about 6-8 months old – so they were big enough to have some mass & muscle…. One started peeing in my beach bag, the other started peeing on my friend’s head (she was asleep, sunbathing.) Obviously we freaked out.
The owner made NO motion to get his pit bull pups away. No effort to chastise them, redirect them… etc. The owner was a jerk and was training his dogs to behave badly in public. He actually gave them affection/pets when we finally shooed them away from peeing on us and our stuff.
I’ve equated pitbulls with idiot/rude owners ever since. Unfortunately, my further encounters have reinforced this view. I don’t blame the dogs, I blame the owners.
