ParticipantCurrently:
– attempting to learn Italian.
– trying to figure out how to raise my kids to not be juvenile delinquents and actually have them contribute to society.
– playing angry birds. That last one is just since Thursday night – I got my xoom, finally… And I guess I spent too much time on it – because I’m on the 3rd unlocked level. LOL. (Note – I did NOT go back and try to get 3 *’s for all the games – just getting past the level was good enough for me.)
Now that I have my xoom – I’m going to take up writing android apps.
Oh – and my son’s FLL team is starting up again – so I’ll be spending a lot of time herding 10 year olds as they learn how to program the NXT.

ParticipantDSK was going to run for the French Presidency. This is all a ruse to outdo the Italian PM, Berlasconi. (On trial for sex with underaged hookers.)
But, alas, it appears to have backfired. Looks like he won’t be president.

Participant
I don’t really see a lot of value in buying a house for $500K in MM keeping in mind the school district
since I have school going kids.
You need to rethink Mira Mesa schools.
I used to have the same opinion – then looked at the data (prompted by AN among others.)Ericson and Sandberg elementary have API’s in the 900’s. Challenger middle school and Mira Mesa HS have respectable API’s also. Challenger and Standley middle (University City) are very close. And Mira Mesa HS outperforms UCHS.
I was under the outdated impression that Mira Mesa Schools weren’t great… but the data shows they are decent and improving.
I’ve joked about moving from UC to Mira Mesa because of the schools. (I like my house, and won’t be moving… but who knows – maybe I’ll try to choice into MMHS.)

Participant
when i was younger and dumber, and had just started working, I counted up my credit card credit line, and it was just under $200,000. My salary was just about 1/6 of that. I counted the 200k as sort of an asset. I also contemplated borrowing it all, using it to aggressively attempt to build a business and defaulting if I failed. it seemed like a no-lose proposition. I didn’t do that because I was concerned about bankruptcy, potential fraud allegations; it just wasn’t for me, but I am very very conservative. But it was certainly out there for usage and it definitely crossed my mind to use it in a risky way to try to get going in life.
I know people who’ve done just this – maxed out their credit cards on a business gamble. Only one succeeded… the rest ended up with crappy credit for years.I was given several credit cards in college. I had very limited income (like $10k/year) but they gave me more than $10k in credit. I traveled. I had a good time. I figured if they were dumb enough to give me credit, I was going to have fun. I regret that debt – took me close to a decade to retire all that debt.
But it wasn’t an asset. It was potential debt. Which I stupidly converted to actual debt.
