ParticipantEven new construction requires ongoing maintenance. The important thing to look at is whether the structural flow of the house works for you. If the size and layout work you’re ahead of the game. Those are harder to change than replacing a roof or windows.
Some people don’t like the older styles of homes (smaller family rooms, less open floor plans). One poster refers to older homes as functionally obsolete. I live in a 60’s era home and it works for our family. Only you can decide what works for your family.

Participant

When was the last time we payed the bloody thing off?
Think about it KSMountain, if you owed a whole year’s worth of income on your credit cards, and and wanted to pay them off quickly, you’d have to tighten the belt for a while.
You might be able to do so by yourself, but if you have wife and kids, they will not enjoy the lower standard of living.
Also remember, that the government needs to take on debt to build roads, schools, etc.. just like most Americans need debts to buy houses and cars, and send their kids to college.
You’re going to have to tell the family that daddy is going to need another job, or mommy needs to cut back on the Ferragamo’s, or maybe we just won’t be able to do private school this year, pumpkin. Sorry. Because at this point we’re spending $1500/mo just in interest and the situation is only getting worse. As the parents, we’re going to have to make the choices to get things back to a sustainable trajectory.Or I guess we could just declare bankruptcy.
I’m glad you mention daddy getting a second job in addition to cutting back on luxeries. It’s past the point of cuts alone being enough… revenue has to increase as well. Any REAL solution involve both deep cuts AND increasing revenues (taxes)! Proposals that only addresses one or the other are jokes.May 22, 2011 at 9:49 AM in reply to: Well, looks like the U.S. of A. maxed out it’s credit cards…Lol…. #697826UCGal

Ha ha….You know that you can play angry birds now on the chrome browser 🙂https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/aknpkdffaafgjchaibgeefbgmgeghloj
Fortunately for you, you don’t have a toddler that likes
Farm Story, Bakery Story, and Restaurant Story…..I figured out those where the games that she accidentally purchased 1000 gems for $100 real U.S. dollars. Now I have apps on both the iPad and the Galaxy Tab so I don’t need to feel so guily about fighting with a 5 year old on playing angry birds versus Farm/Bakery/Restaurant story…
My boys have been eyeing the xoom with the express purpose of playing angry birds. I mock them – tell them to go play plants vs zombies on the computer or one of the gazillian pokemon games on their DS’s. The Xoom is MINE!
(Assuming they’ve finished homework, piano practice, etc… I may not be asian, but I try to channel my inner tiger mom when I can. Otherwise I tell them to go do homework or practice piano.)
