ParticipantTrade negotiations are not done yet.
IMO The biggest danger is the fed raising rates.
They are expecting a 4% increase in GDP this Friday.
I don’t think we have had a 4 handle on the GDP since 1999 (I maybe wrong on that).People care a lot more about their economy than anything else (most everything else is more on the fringe than some people want to think).

ParticipantBeen to Demark, Not really into the Bar/Beer scene.
Maybe that’s why it seemed kind of boring to me.
Too cold as well.
To each their own I guess, I do like having a beer out on the patio with a few friends.
I guess that’s why suburbs work for me.

Participant“Do you wish you owned property in shanghai? It’s like suburban people writing off NYC and Washington, DC. Don’t you wish you owned some brownstones in the city?”
As an investment maybe, to visit once in awhile maybe.
To live in no.
“Smart people never voted against their own interests.”
Actually I think they are lied to and tricked all the time.

ParticipantFlyerInHi
Sounds like you are a true believer in China’s plan to be the #1 world power by their 100 year anniversary of the revolution.
Me I am not convinced.
Baring the whole country tearing itself apart. IMO in 50 years the #1 world power will still be USA by a very long shot.
That said the middle is a very lonely place right now, everyone seems to have taken a side (extreme far right or extreme far left) no one wants to meet in the middle anymore.
Sad.
June 20, 2018 at 4:46 PM in reply to: CA Landlords. What do you plan to do if the rent control initiative passes in November? #810289The-Shoveler
ParticipantThere are a few parts of SD county that do have rent control (some trailer/RV parks etc..).
I am not sure why the above have not been sold already as some are in some prime locations for condos’ etc…
My guess is that if SD implements rent control over a wider area it will create a lot of chaos and displacement as landlords desperately try to sell ASAP.
LA county rent control is a lot more prevalent so it could turn ugly IMO.

ParticipantFrom what I understand, your sneakers and jeans etc.. at Costco will not be tariff’ed, it is more industrial equipment some electronics and industrial robots etc..
Most consumer goods should not be affected that much, but we will see.
Maybe I am wrong but it seemed this last round of tariffs were aimed at high value added (industrial tech, robots etc…) (maybe stuff we would want to keep here).
Still more worried about the fed raising interest rates.
The-Shoveler
ParticipantYes most likely as in most recessions (Fed induced recession).
The-Shoveler
ParticipantMeh
More worried about rising interest rates to be honest.
Although I do agree tariffs are not good,
The Chinese already had fairly stiff tariffs for tech, communication equipment etc.. prior to all this, many EU states had large subsidies for agricultural products etc.. prior as well.

ParticipantIt tells me the S-Korean’s were ready to try.
All else being equal if it works, we should get out of the way maybe.
The-Shoveler
Participant“he got the invite through South Korea”
This kind of tells you something all by itself actually.
Not really a Trump fan so don’t get me wrong, but the 24/7 media war by CNN and others is getting kinda old to the point where it may even be helping Trump.
Maybe they should get back to their old biz model and report world new a little more and lighten up a little on the Trump 24/7 beat-up.
The-Shoveler
ParticipantSo you are saying we were better off with no agreement?
I don’t think the US will lose much influence in Asia that it would not have loss regardless (time marches on into the future).
The USA will do just fine IMO.
Do you think Hillary would have been able to pull it off?
For better or worse, I don’t think there would have even been a meeting if it were not for Trump,

ParticipantI would take any California democrats promise of universal healthcare with a very large dose of skepticism.
As I said before they have already voted it down at least twice.
They seem very much in the pockets of the insurance companies.
The-Shoveler
Participant
Shoveler, you mean the Kaiser-kontrolled Kalifornia Kongress?
LOL yea that would be the one.
The-Shoveler
ParticipantI will add one more thing here on the Health-care issue.
A Republican who would support universal healthcare may actually be be hard to beat (as really secretly even most republican voters would like to see this happen), but do not support things like the high speed rail etc…
The democrats record on this issue is spotty at best, it has been voted down several times in the mostly democratic California congress.
