Participant
By North County San Diego I assume that includes Temecula?

And need I mention that Temecula schools really are top notch?
Participant
Santa Barbara.
Or if you if must stay in so cal.
Palos Verdes.
2-3 Mil won’t buy you a lot in Santa Barbara, but you will have Oprah as a neighbor,
You get a little more in Palos Verdes, not sure if Arnold still lives there or not, in Bonsall you can get a very very nice place for around 1.5 mil.
School link,
http://www.bonsallusd.com/Bonsall schools are rated about the same as San Marco’s, Not too shabby,

ParticipantTry Bonsall (just a little south of Fallbrook),
Really nice custom homes there with acreage (most with paying avocado groves on them).
Fallbrook is nice as well but its’ a little too close to the Base and not so sure about the schools.
Don’t really know about Bonsall schools either so you would need to check that out.

Participant

A normal person sleeps 7 hr at least.
24 – 7 = 17
17 – 9 (for work and lunch) = 8
8 – 2 (for commuting) = 6
6 – 1 (for getting ready) = 5
5 – 1.5 (for other meals) = 3.5Not much left in the day for yourself and to enjoy those wide open spaces, is there?
My commute is 25 minutes, not 1 hour (though I would do 1 hour for the right job).
Believe it or not, you *are* affected by noise/congestion even while you are eating, getting ready for work, and sleeping – I have lived in areas where car alarms, sirens, and noisy neighbors woke me up at all hours of the night.
And you have conveniently left off weekends.
There is also sick days and holidays as well as stay at home mini-vacations, you would be surprised at how many days you don’t drive if you don’t want to,
Staycation stuck in a condo with kid’s … I don’t want to think about it really. Also your kid’s environments to consider, not just your drive.

ParticipantI vote San Marco’s Burb,
You never know where you will be working in 10 years,
What if you get a job in OC or Carlsbad 5 years from now ?
What if you get a Job where you can work from home ? (that extra space will be nice then)
Also JMHO but I think you will get more appreciation in the Burbs over time as the city continues its enviable sprawl err aah, I mean expansion.
(Believe it or not It is unlikely you will see 5000 high rise condo’s popping up in the city to handle the next 20 million population growth expected in SoCal by 2050)
But I kind of like my quite time in the car with the radio blasting stuff I can’t do at home so much, and driving in traffic only gets to me when I am late for something so I am weird that way. Also I think 50-100 MPG cars will be very common 10-15 years from now, gas or some synthetic will not be that big a part of the middle class budget IMO (minimum wage yea it becomes a big deal).

ParticipantThe Elephant in the room everyone is ignoring is still Europe.
Also the slow down in china, being in china was weird, there is a cr#p load of stimulus (I think to a large part to smooth the new Gov being installed there),They are really really counting on us to pick up the slack and buy a bunch of stuff SOON!!!

Participant
Then again, the entire economy could blow up, and nothing matters.
Looks like we’re starting earning seasons, and while numbers look ok, I guess expectations are out of wack…
Yea I keep thinking, they are holding the euro-zone together with duct tape until after the election.

ParticipantTry googling
“Sliding Glass door roller replacement”I have done this for many projects, there is almost always a good youtube video that shows you how.

ParticipantSure ban cars, then only criminals (or worse the Gov) will have cars,
Visions of Mad Max come to mind,
Just kidding.Really I love cars, suburbia and the whole California life style.
A thousand years from now, the people will look back in envy at our life styles.The-Shoveler
ParticipantHate to be a party pooper but,
Perry, a Republican, campaigned on the strength of the Texas economy and made political hay of the fact the Lone Star state had avoided California’s massive deficit, pegged at $25.4 billion through the upcoming budget year.
Now Texas faces a budget deficit estimated as high as $27 billion for the upcoming two-year cycle of 2012-2013. To close the gap, state legislators have proposed steep cuts in funding to education and welfare programs.
California and Texas are in similar budgetary dire straits following a painful U.S. recession that severely crimped state tax receipts and other critical revenue sources.
How the debate plays out in Austin and Sacramento will be watched closely by the $2.8 trillion U.S. municipal bond market, which states could tap to cover their shortfalls. California, which has the world’s eighth-largest economy, is the market’s biggest debt issuer.

ParticipantOne other thing,
The city of Valencia, (like Temecula) is one of the few cities in SoCal running a budget surplus.
The-Shoveler
ParticipantI already put my vote for Valencia or Simi Valley (two of the safest neighborhoods in the U.S.A. currently).
But for the members on this board, I think it’s just too close to being like Temecula for everyone’s comfort zones.
Ha! Ha !,Anyway, just kidding.

ParticipantMN ?
One word
