ParticipantI have not known any good coders (or even marginal coders) who were ever out of work for very long.
Only coders who went full time into management etc…
that is where I have seen them have a hard time when laid off.The coders who keep their hands dirty elbows deep in code can usually find work quickly.
Keep your hands in the code….

ParticipantSome of the best engineers I have ever worked with have been Blondes and redheads.

Participant
Hey FLU you should live in a cave in the hills of Temecula to avoid the impeding earthquake and subsequent Tsunami. Nobody wants to buy in CV anyway. You make it sound like it has been one of the best places in the country to buy a place over the past 30 years.
Everything is different now though so you better prep for it man!
Bring it, I am ready !!

ParticipantIf the city of L.A. would just adopt anti pension spiking rules and make them retro-active they may be even OK.
But that is unlikely.
Most likely outcome is to not do anything until the fund balance is zero, and then go negative for several years before the above happens.

ParticipantI could see Apple taking a hit actually, MS windows 8 tablets and touch screen Lap-Tops are much more functional IMO.
Android SmartPhones and Cheap Tablets ($40 this week) are kind of taking over IMO as well.The-Shoveler
Participant
Think what a strong earthquake in the wrong place would do – make Sandy look like a summer rain shower.
They had a 007 movie that had the villain attempt to trigger a quake that would sink SV into the ocean. Don’t think that is really possible however.

ParticipantHaving been to San Jose many times, I don’t see it fading away anytime soon.
But at the same time I would rather live in SD area than the SV/SF area.The-Shoveler
ParticipantCPU cycles spent hacking BitCoin would most likely be more profitable than mining at this point IMO

ParticipantLets say you were able to get a copy of all the addresses etc.. of someone’s bitcoin account,
Then if that client was off line, you could conceivably spend those bitcoins (steal them in a word).I don’t think they would send the FBI after you.

ParticipantI wonder if there are any laws against counterfeit bitcoins ?
If someone emptied your bitcoin account do you have any recourse ?

ParticipantActually moderate wage inflation helps workers with debts.
Fixed income not so much.

ParticipantFor CV I think it is a lot more about schools than commuting.
I seriously doubt there are very many living there without school age kids.

ParticipantI know a lot of 2 income engineer families.
I don’t know about qcom especially but if it is anything like L.A. the more senior engineers make closer to 200K than 100K
