On one hand they can show those who are legends in their own mind exactly what the community thinks of them (a plus) …
Well, no, it can’t show exactly what they think. It can only show that they don’t like a post. A thumbs down could mean “I think you’re wrong” which, with no argument to back it up means nothing. It could mean “you’re just a troll” but, if that’s not said, no one would know that’s what it meant. It could mean “I have no valid argument, and you’re right, but I don’t want to admit that” which, of course, is lame, but which could result in a thumbs down. It could mean “you hurt my feelings.” It could mean “you made me look bad and I don’t like that.” It could mean, “you’re a democrat and I’m a republican, therefore I don’t like anything you say.” I’d wager everything I own we’d see a few of those thumbs downs. It could mean a whole bunch of things, but if all we have is a thumbs down, we don’t know which of those many things that it means.
I think that if you can’t come up with a valid counterargument to something, you should either 6admit that or not say anything. Not just vote thumbs down. If you don’t like something for another reason, and you want to indicate that you don’t like it, you should indicate the reason.
You’re welcome to your opinion zk, because i sure don’t want it! Lol

I don’t use the ignore function because, every once in awhile, even the trolls can make insightful points.
Reminds me of the Tom Petty song…”Even the losers keep a little bit of pride – yeah, they get lucky some times”
I’m on the fence with voting buttons. I can see both sides. On one hand they can show those who are legends in their own mind exactly what the community thinks of them (a plus) … on the other hand, it will start encouraging group think discouraging dissenting viewpoints (a minus)which, in some situations, are my viewpoint too.
I think you can see that happen on facebook.
We’ve sort of already implemented our own upvote capability. Often you’ll see folks create simple posts that say “+1”

Let me know when your next revelation will be the next time you’re high. Entertainment factor, of course.
Conjures up images of phaster and bearish sitting around in an opium den pondering how to take a succinct three sentence thought and expand it into a monolithic, over-quoted, bolded, italicized, grotesquely pictured, 20 paragraph manifesto.
svelteParticipantOP has no doubt made decision long ago.
Thread started 3.5 years ago.
svelteParticipant
Optimizer looks like a central inverter to me.
I guess you could look at it as if the solution on the left is a central inverter + power optimizers.

I’ve read there are panels that backfeed into a standard wall plug. Next thing you know people will be running them from the roof down through open windows like I’ve seen people do for their satellites. Scary!
You’d still need a DC-AC conversion in there somewhere.
Sounds similar to the batteries plugged into a wall plug that I was talking about. I’m gonna hang back on that one – I’m not a beta-tester kind of guy. 🙂
svelteParticipantThere is a third option: power optimizers.
Attached is a diagram I made to help me understand the difference when I did my research in 2015. I went with power optimizers to help simplify the setup when/if I decide to add batteries down the line. It remains to be seen whether I really needed to do that, as I’ve heard of some battery setups that simply plug into your standard wall outlets now, so I may have overplanned. Time will tell.

svelteParticipantThere will always be a segment of the population that likes rustic farmhouse. It’ll never go away completely, just like ultra modern will never go away completely.
One thing I’ve found is that *we* get bored of a specific style after awhile. Regardless of whether it is in vogue with the rest of the population, there usually comes a time when we want to switch out the furniture for a new look.
That’s why we’re not much on spending a fortune for last-forever furniture. Chances are we’re gonna want to ditch it within 10 years, just for something fresh to our eyes.
August 21, 2016 at 8:10 PM in reply to: OT: Chinese Airline Companies offering $300k+ for pilots…. #800782svelteParticipant
The nice thing about being an airline pilot, at least for me, is that for many years I’ve been able to bid a schedule that allows me to work only about 8 days a month at full compensation with union benefits, which has left me with a great deal of time to pursue other interests–family, real estate investment projects, film investment projects, etc.–So no complaints here.
One of my buddies does the same thing for American…doesn’t work much because of the way he bids for flights. But…he is on call like every weekend. When we go out, he can’t drink because he’d have to go in on a moment’s notice.
I bet you have a similar downside…gotta stay tethered and sober.
svelteParticipant
BG, your disparaging of the Clinton marriage is so not consrvative or traditional. Did you hear of the concept of til death do us part?
I have no clue why anybody but the Clintons should care who each other screws. I mean, really, if Hillary is OK with it, what is the issue? Maybe she’s doing the same thing!
At the end of the day, who boinks who is nobody’s business but the people doing the boinking.
To think otherwise is to place waaaay to much emphasis on the importance of sex.

Excellent summary of the thought process of many Trump supporters.
Your mistake was attempting to use objective reasoning when communicating with a Trump supporter.
And you even got the expected nonsensical response: “But I’m not a Trump supporter…”
I think one thing this election has shown me more than anything is that those who are hard right will vote Rep no matter what, even if the candidate were Satan himself. Those that are hard left will vote Dem no matter what also.
I kinda knew this before, but with the way that Trump is completely off track with traditional Rep positions, the way my very Christian friends have jumped through mental hoops to justify supporting him, and the way that my Rep friends seem totally unconcerned with his lack of political experience (which they lambasted Obama for just 8 short years ago) I’ve learned just how far folks will go to justify their candidate.
svelteParticipant
Ahem …. for the record, “Trump supporters” are neither “stupid,” “racist,” “bigoted,” “little Hitlers,” “uneducated” or “low-information voters.”They are of every race, every age and every educational level. I know this to be a fact amongst people in my “sphere” here in SD County. That “sphere” includes people from “professionals” on down thru the ranks.
I’m not sure I trust the judgment of someone who misuses quotation in virtually every sentence and definitely every paragraph written. Why why WHY do you take extra time to quote things that aren’t quotes? What does it possibly buy you?
Italics and bold I get – I think you overuse them, but I get it. But the quotes? Come on!
When I think of how much extra time you take to bold, quote, and italics it boggles my mind.

I didn’t realize this forum was “partisan” but to the naked eye it has clearly appeared so as of late.
You are certainly quite partisan on here yourself, Miss Molly. Don’t go wagging that finger in anybody else’s face.
svelteParticipant
Why can’t we find candidates who haven’t made suspicious amounts of money in real estate (or trading cattle), who don’t say racist things or stupid things like “I short circuited” and who don’t set my teeth on edge. I am hoping someday for a candidate that I am excited about . . .
We do get good candidates sometimes. Problem is there are plenty of people like this that get to help pick our candidates:
Watch these Trump supporters agree that putting shock collars on Mexicans is a great idea
We could make a similar video on idiot Democrats too.
I’m not sure what the solution is. Education is a part of it, but no matter how many classes you send some folks too, they’re still going to be a few eggs short of a dozen.
svelteParticipantI haven’t seen a single Clinton yard or bumper sticker sign either.
Have you?

If your argument is that a grenade should be illegal because it can allow a single individual to take out a large number of people (which appears to be what you’re saying), then you obviously think automatic guns should be illegal too.
I assume by automatic, you mean ‘machine’ or fully automatic. I feel that these should be highly regulated – at a federal firearms license level. Defense contractors use the federal firearms license to be able to build equipment for them or build the weapons themselves.
Sounds fair to me. Can’t say I disagree…
