ParticipantYeah, prices are going up in one of the hardest hit markets in the country.
Two reasons:
(1) the asinine foreclosure law that NV passed last year, making certain irregularities felonies for the people who put their name to the papers.
(2) the fact that cap rates are extremely good in LV compared to CA. Prices can move up A LOT at current rents, and the properties will still cash flow. Not so in most of CA, at least not within 20 miles of the coast.spdrun
ParticipantAs for dirty hippies on the street selling pot, I have a better reason for not wanting to live there than just not exposing my kids to it. I don’t personally want to see dirty hippies on the street selling pot. I like my sidewalks scum-free. If my kids want drugs, they’ll have to get them at school, not on my clean, pleasant downtown streets.
I think that’s the difference between myself and a lot of people: I like a certain amount of grit in my neighborhoods. Or at least am not bothered by the occasional skeeveball piddling under my window.

ParticipantI just bought a house in Las Vegas. Prices there are going up. And it’s supposed to be one of the worse markets in the country.
So? Vegas isn’t CA.
Keep in mind that prices are dropping or going nowhere in many Eastern and Northeastern markets (excl. Florida, perhaps). And in NJ, Chris Christie’s “let them foreclose on the bums” attitude is a beautiful thing. About the only thing I like about the fat prick.

ParticipantReal men work on cars outside, to get that nice red sunburnt look on their necks. And beat anyone who complains to the HOA to a pulp.

ParticipantOr at least pee on him 🙂

ParticipantDeeeee-TROIT is in Canada now?
Actually, that would have been a good solution in 2009. Give the pest hole to Canada instead of bailing out the auto workers and Ronnie Ghettofinder’s union.

ParticipantDeter thieves? Fake cameras would do just as well. Real cameras might only catch them after the fact if they chose not to be deterred. Or were too cracked out to be afraid.

ParticipantHahahahaha, sorry 🙂

Participant^^^
WSJ is saying that the major decreases are over, not that we’ll see a new Bubble any time soon. The thread you cited basically agrees, you sarcastic clown.

ParticipantI wonder what stupid excuse you guys will use when arguing with those who have kids, and are saying the same thing. Other than resorting to ad-hominem attacks, of course 🙂

ParticipantDo you realize how silly YOU guys sound, thinking that the big bad potheads will start eating children? The beach town that my family spent summers in had its fair share of weirdos, bums, and crazies.
Somehow both my sister and I survived, and were walking to the beach or friends’ houses alone long before we got our licenses.
Not to mention that my current neighborhood is full of kids, but also has a fair number of homeless people. And yes, you can often smell some whacky tabaccy coming from doorways when you’re walking down the street.
I don’t have a dog in this fight, but it’s small-minded fearful crap of this type that makes me seriously consider expatriation.

ParticipantSo feel free to zip your yammer-hole. Why brag about it?
But remember that even people who aren’t raising kids grew up in certain types of areas, and have experience with them. As well as knowing people who are raising kids in areas that aren’t cookie-cutter chain-store-infested ratholes.
My sister’s best friend decided to stay in Northeast DC and raise her daughter there, for one thing.

ParticipantDaCounselor —
Please cite a study which proves that kids from comparable areas where pot is more easily available turn out worse — say, less education, or more likely to commit crimes as adults. Or is this all knee-jerking in response to “people who look different” than your average desk jockey.BearishGurl –
I don’t think I was quite that adventurous when I was 16, though I did study in Poland the semester after high school. Eventually ended up traveling to Budapest and Prague with a friend and later alone. Also had a job with the local engineering company as a Unix/mail admin, gofer, and occasional troubleshooter of HVAC controls when I was 17!

ParticipantFor reasons beyond what I’ll get into I’d say pot is far from kid-neutral. Kids dont need isolation or shelter but they thrive under safe healthy conditions and a positive environment moreso than not. A single 32 year old male from NY with a disdain for authority and no life experience in parenting is not a relaible source of information nor is a bitter old lady in the south bay. You can have each other as you both “get” it.
Fine.
Let me say this: the only difference between OB and the rest of the world is that the purveyors of said herb are slightly more visible. Regardless of where they live, if the kids are going to a school with other rich kids, trust me: weed and much, much, worse will be available to them. It’s not a question of kids finding a dealer. It’s a question of dealers smelling money and coming to the kids.
And it’s funny. I believe the “bitter old lady” had a kid or two in her day. How many do you have?!
