ParticipantPlenty of scientists work at pure science out of curiosity or for the betterment of humanity.

ParticipantYou have been handed an opportunity to do something epic.
(If you are uncomfortable with it, at least use dog poo ….)The poo prank is so overdone. What about hiding a speaker somewhere, waiting for him to show up? As he bends over and touches the paper, a recording of an angry dog suddenly starts playing.

ParticipantLegal right — sure. Moral right, hell no.
For an example of the right thing to do, look at Willem Kolff who released the plans for a dialysis machine into the public domain in the late ’40s, rather than “patenting and profiting.”

ParticipantCan’t you buy in Carlsbad for that price and be 15 min from work? (And maybe if you’re lucky, walking distance to the beach.)
I hear you on being closer to the city, but it isn’t hard to get into SD during off hours from the north if you’re only going once or twice a week.

ParticipantCall me a curmudgeon in my 30s, but I like the feel of dead trees in my hands more than that of Steve Jobs’ Delight.

ParticipantIf the guy’s that much of an asshat, I’m not sure if it’s worth spending money to appease him. You really can’t win with people like him, so why bother trying?
If he persists in harassing you, put up a camera (even if fake). His behavior may not rise to the level of harassment or disorderly conduct, but he may behave himself if he knows that he might end up with a lawsuit on his hands.

ParticipantDepends how long the course is — I’ve done autocross on essentially a mini-racetrack before.

ParticipantWhat are you driving? Start simple: tires can help quite a bit.

ParticipantPlywood or fireproof recycled cement-board. Say you open your car door and it’s touching the drywall. You don’t set the e-brake and the car rolls back a bit. That tends to do bad things to drywall, ask me how I know 🙂

ParticipantGet up early in the morning, attach the package to the trigger of a Super Soaker pointed through the door mail slot via a small nylon thread?
Or just print out a copy of the video frame and put a WANTED! poster on your front stoop. He might get the hint.
Could be worse. A friend of mine had issues with a homeless guy repeatedly defecating on the front steps leading down to his cellar. Ended up having to cover the steps with a wood platform and put planters on top of it, using the rear entrance instead.
