Participant^^^
Yeah, that’s too fucking creepy in the opposite direction. Might make it harder for the average beat cop to get away with things, but makes it easier for the scum running things to spy on people. No thanks.

ParticipantAppraisals should be conservative. Banks shouldn’t lend based on inflated offers, but rather on value history over the past 12-24 months. If prices can increase quickly, they can also go down, and the bank needs to protect itself and its investors. If people can’t get a loan, too fucking bad for them. Not everyone needs to own a home.

ParticipantUse the ACLU app or anything else that uploads to the cloud. That way, any sort of theft or attack would damn the cops more and open them up to criminal charges.
As far as the frustration, if they’re frustrated about being in the public eye, time to quit and find another job. They’re not required to stay in a given line of work. Don’t like your job? Do something about it. Don’t whine like a little beeyotch and lash out physically like an angry toddler.

ParticipantHigher to middle end going strong. Low end might have peaked. We’ll see if the rest of the market follows suit.

ParticipantARMs never went away as portfolio loans. Per QM standards, they can’t be securitized as residential loans, so they’ll remain a niche market.

ParticipantWell, they’re not lending to every skell who can fog a mirror. Yet.

ParticipantWithout the scaredys of the world, we’d have descended into Fascism 100 years ago.

ParticipantThe same level of paranoia doesn’t exist in other Western societies, which often have lower fertility rates than the US.

ParticipantSvelte:
(a) What’s wrong with sounding like a defense lawyer? They fulfill a useful function in a country with a “justice” system as fucked up as the US.
(b) Would you give the same advice to someone who’s being raped or mugged? Just stand right there — you’ll have your day in court … maybe. Eventually.
(c) Screw the swine who shot the guy who was running away, then planted evidence. Hope he spends the rest of his pathetic life rotting in prison, only seeing his family through a thick glass wall. And that the visits get less and less frequent — one day, his wife will mention the better man in her life and shrug. At that point, maybe he’ll hope to get his shoelaces back.

ParticipantAre we talking about the guy who was shot in SC?

ParticipantI disagree. Anecdotally, when I was growing up in NJ, I knew quite a few people who had never been to NYC (50 min train ride) let alone Maine or California.
And this was in 80s/90s when people had more free time than now.

Participant
There is no question that the CA lifestyle is one of the best. Especially the climate, people and freedom are very much admired by Europeans who life a much more confined and regimented life.
In many ways, younger Europeans are less regimented. University is cheap, so they’re not locked down by student loans. They tend to demonstrate a lot more, since the consequences of being arrested/ticketed aren’t as great as in the US. More time off, so more time to travel when young.
It’s also pretty common for kids over 8 or 9 to walk or take public transport to school, and travel to other countries with friends by age 16 or 17. Helicopter parenting isn’t as common as in the US — kids grow up more independent.

ParticipantFlyerInHI, at this point, the discussion was about SFR homes.
Call me a pig, but I wouldn’t wash a jacket after wearing it once. I’d be going through coats like they were toilet paper — they’re not designed to be washed a lot!
As far as dating, couldn’t you just let her use your washer? An excuse for her to come over more 🙂
You don’t even need to punch a hole in a wall for a dryer these days. There are condensing units that drain to the sewer.
