ParticipantYes, forgive me, I meant to say “not making any more land, but what they’re really not making are houses with genuine period architecture.” Unfortunately (for me), I’m a little tired and under the weather and since that’s my favorite way to rattle it off, I blew a great opportunity.
That said, are you suggesting there’s a meaningful difference, because that would be fun to debate. You’d be surprised the ingenuity people can bring to bear when it comes to “discovering” buildable land. Why one need look no further than, well, Point Loma and the aforementioned Liberty Station.

ParticipantWell, it’s a done deal and we’re in. Have to say that I love the house. Of course, we ended up where we were looking which was north county coastal. Which means, of course, that we’re screwed since this is the only area that’s still got significant downside (I’ve seen the threads…)
For me though, it really came down to what I thought I might find and exactly when I might find it. Maybe I didn’t get the great deal sdrealtor found for one of his clients (and that *is* a great deal), but it is something I can live with and might still be the best place I would have found for the money even if I waited another few years. At least for our family. Guess we’ll just have to see.
Regardless, I never have to buy another house again and my kids love it, my wife is happy and we’ve even got some holiday decorations up.

ParticipantMission Hills (and Point Loma) will always command a premium. I’ve never been a believer in “we’re running out of land,” but one thing they’re not building anymore are 1920’s spanish-style homes or craftsman bungalows or mid-century moderns.
Not saying they won’t come down (or haven’t already), just that they’ll still be premium areas for some time to come. I would agree though that Liberty Station probably doesn’t help the cause.
And this coming from an engineer, no less.
