ParticipantIsn’t selling intrinsically bound wth an opinion?
Lawyers just sell pure advice, and some words on paper, but usually people get a little something w the advice

ParticipantFlu I currently owe 439000 at 4.375 perc. Mo payment is 2236
Should I buy that down to get 15 y at 3.0 perc no cost mo payment 2855?
I can afford it but would have to keep my stink car another 7 years.

ParticipantWell, all right but it is a barrier to selling.
And I don’t think anyone would give me more than $500 for the car.
Even though it’s worth many thousands!

ParticipantMaybe there’s fine print on the sign I can’t see
but I bought this car in 1988 and it’s sort of a badge of stubbornness to not ditch it.
Also I’m not sure where the title is.
It sure would be nice to have a/c though. And some upholstery on the seats. Also the hatch is really hard to open. And it smells really bad. And the starters been making that grinding noise for 15 years that supposedly means it’s about to go. And the body is really dented and the paint is flaky. And the dog threw up in it.
But some years it costs me nothing!!!
And I brought all 3 boys home from the hospital in it.

ParticipantBut doesn’t it seem odd that cars are cheaper to finance than houses?
Sdccu has a big sign everywhere here saying 2.5 perc for 72 m.
Might be cheaper to buy new than repair…
Not sure how sdccu can make money at 2.5 perc on cars

ParticipantI have a question … Why are auto loan interest rates cheaper than mortgage rates? I see 2.5 perc at local credit union. Seems wrong; makes me want to buy a new car and maybe dumb for spending 2,000 over the last year to fix up my thrashed 89 Honda civic.

ParticipantAt the beginning of the day, he’s a seismologist. Midday, a dealer in rare books. But at the end of the day he’s a realtor.
We are too specialized nowadays.

ParticipantI still don’t think it’s a good idea to have savings in cash, I still stick with savings in cef, gdx and energy shares.
I’m also not persuaded that interest rate jumps will lower prices.
Have you seen the article in Harpers this month on mers litigation.
Kind of another example of power and status quo.
As my wife reminds me, without her I’d probably still be living in a filthy hole having skipped law school and eating microwave stuff.
She makes a valid point. Sill, the filthy nest sounds cozy sometimes.

ParticipantFist pumping to the sky?
Friends who had been very bullish in real estate were telling me not to buy at the end of 2010.
I think there was some, maybe not maximum, but some real fear in the real estate market at points over the last few years.
I only bought after conceding To myself that the GOV mainpulation was potentially limitless and that resistance was futile.
