Participantbased on my recent experience with archimede I’d say the odds are good a decent watch will keep its value in pace with inflation and that you probably won’t take a bath on a rolex or a breitling. Could be wrong, though.
for those of you lsutig after a particular expensive watch, let me ask you, would you ever consider wearing a “replica” (fake)? Personally, I am opposed, mainly because the watch is supposed to make you feel a certain way, and a fake is not going to produce that feeling… but the fakes look very persuasive nowadays

Participantin terms of status, agood watch i think used to slightly impress others. not sure if that is the case anymore, what with all the knockoffs and lack of watch awareness…

ParticipantI am considering running on this platform. I doubt it will work at the local political level. I think I need to make a direct run for the presidency.
I will not decide to make zen weightlifting nonmandatory and america will be strong again or not. But it will definitely be.

Participantmost of my best decisions have been to do nothing.

Participanti guess this is why my wife wouldn’t let me live somewhere with neighbors…

Participantthe truth is, in many things in life, doing nothing is far preferable to doing something.
i think there’s a compelling argument for doing nothing in this area also.
leadership feels it has to do something.
i wonder if there’s room in the USA for a Zen party.
We Will Do Nothing.

Participanti would definitely be pissed if my kids started smoking.
or if 2nd hand smoke were blwoing at them all day….

Participantmaye not as bad as it sounds. can only be enforced by neighbors in small claims ct, not cops.
so…if you’re really smoking in your apt, with windows closed, not getting smoke into anyone else…you’ll be fine…no one will know you’re smoking or care. but if your smoke is blowinginto your neighbors house…your neighbor has a cause of action.
the reality is people aren’t really smoking in their apt. theyre lighting cigs and sending the smoke out into their neighbor’s apts.
no smoker wants to smoke in an apt with closed windows and just let the smoke settle there all day, right?

Participantwell, for sure, some people are more tolerant of risk than others.
But this much is also assured; whatever one’s tolerance for risk is, call it x, the tolerance of risk for one’s offspring is significanty less, something like 1/10 to 1/20x. That is why parents do not really want what is best for their children, but what is safest. We want life to work out for them. We want them not to fail.
As the great jazz artist Coleman Hawkins said, “If you’re not making mistakes, you’re not really trying”. Well, in theory we want our kids to learn from mistakes, but everyone wants recoverable mistakes for their kids. Nothing too bad…
The part that is difficult to imagine about having kids is how terrifying it can be to have them out there, potentially making big mistakes. Me, personally, i could give a crap if i die. Really. If I keeled over and had a heart attack right now, I’d be fine with that, except i was planning to get a few things done this weekend, but, well, big deal.
But if one of my kids were to die, or if harm were to come to them, or even if their lives got screwed up in some significant way…I don’t know if I could recover.
the other part that’s hard to imagine is how 24/7 draining it is to monitor small fry.
And so, hardcore urban lifestyle, it’s doable. But it might be different than you think. Maybe not. But maybe. Kids change you or well, they changed me; they made me into an even bigger pussy than I was!
How me and my brother grew up in Brooklyn NY in the late 70’s, early 80’s? What we did? I would not let my children be subject to that level of risk. I guess this is why a lot of old people get really conservative.

Participantnow I’m wondering if the resurgence of heroin is indicative of a continuing economic slump. People wanting to lie around and ignore the world…When meth comes back in force, that may be a sign of economic recovery. people want to get up and get going for long commutes, double overtime shifts…

Participanti gotta admit, i do feel better wearing my yarmulke.
We may not be able to to prove the existence or nonexistence of yahweh, but, I think I can prove he’s a pretty cantankerous fellow who sometimes does not care about people and what happens to individuals.
