Participantcarwoo’s initial price was not lowest. but after pitting dealers against one another with internet quotes, carwoo referred dealer ended up in the cheapest place. probably depends only on the dealer.

Participanti am concerned a bit about maintaining the reputation of my law school, since status, hierarchy and ranking matter, especially in the law…
One item that goes into the US NEWS AND WORLD reprt ranking system is percentage of alum who donate to the school. it’s supposed to be an indicator of alumni loyalty and involvement.
Therefore, i donate a quarter every year.
I even make it on the $100.00 and under gift lists for the alumni.
I don’t think driving a crap car would hurt the US NEWS AND WORLD report ranking though.

Participanti have always driven my Honda Civic in a way to minimize the RPMs in order to make the engine last as long as possible. So now i have a cosmetically thrashed civic with a strong engine with 250,000 miles.
I’ll probably drive this car the same way.
but no eating in or dogs throwing up in the car this time. Also i’ll close the windows so cats don’t come piss in it during the night.
now, let’s see, a custom pattern for a vinyl design. i’m going to need to ponder that. I need a logo….
There would have been a satisfying dissonance between a thrashed 80’s civic and license plate holders from an ivy league school and a top law school…but I never went there…
i remember in the old days seeing bumperstickers saying “don’t laugh it’s paid for”…havent really seen those around for a while. “Don’t laugh…the financing’s real cheap” isn’t quite as punchy…”don’t laugh…my lease is almost up?”
if i had bought a midlife sports car, maybe “Powered by Viagra”?
i am too scared to put insulting bumperstickers on. Don’t want to make anyone too angry at me needlessly.

Participanti knew a guy in college who died in a freak car accident where he slid off the road and hit the one tree around in a wide open area in the drivers door and died. Had been thinking about him lately.
Bad things do actualy happen now and again…
I guess i could put the bipartisan stickers in the middle of the bumper.
I’ve always despised the idea of putting academic related alumni or honor sticker materials on there. feels pathetic.
The other problem is that putting my alma maters on my old car would have brought shame to the institutions…or at least made people think, jeez, that school must suck, look at what what the alums ride…

Participantso where am I going to get a bumper sticker with the word “Mission” crossed out and replaced with “Nothing” accomplished–defeat bush in 2004 to replace the old tattered one?
also had an “obama-rama” air freshener…what a disappointment that was…
Actually I was thinking this time of putting a bunch of left wing bumperstickers on the left side anda bunch of right wing bumper stickers on the right side.
the Hello Kitty seat covers are extremely tempting and appreciated….
the stick shift knob used to turn into this black gooey surface substance that left dark crud on your hand at certain humidity levels…i would just wear gloves…
gonna save money right away by not registering the old car in a month, not smog checking it, and also the heater switch had to be repaired since it broke this summer. also needed a new front tire. So i feel kind of like I got a free car payment and saved a bunch of hours right there…

Participantall I can say, piggs seeking hondas, is I’d get a quote off http://www.carwoo.com and http://www.truecar.com and run it by Spreen Honda in Loma Linda. bring the paperwork showing the bid and at least in my case, they were the lowest price by quite a bit and they kept their promise…they did say they wouldn’t honor their quote if I don’t bring the paperwork.

Participantfear is my only true call to action. Basically I was too afraid to sit on cash and not buy a house, and I was too afraid that by merely having started seriously thinking that my old car was unsafe that I would jinx myself into having a fatal accident.
i do need to get some sort of mesh type seat cushion to i don’t sweat up my new ride.
im pretty excited about the ipod usb connection. actually it’s pretty bitching just to have a stereo…

Participantnone of the extras on any used car are worth anything to me. I don’t care about any option. All I want is a warranty and no problems.
weird thing happened right when I left the dealership. I was driving hesitantly. and about a 1/2 mile from the dealer a cop pulled behind me and followed close behind me for a few miles. felt for sure I was gonna get pulled over, thought maybe i had failed to use a turn signal or something…
but did not..

Participantbought new Accord today for $17,999 plus tax, title and reg.
Spreen Honda. They honored their carwoo.com internet price.
I’m just too scared to buy a used car. I cannot handle that risk.
And too scared suddenly to drive my old car with my kids in it.
.09% financing for 60 months.
Not .9%, but .09%. With nothing down.
I think the payment is $329.00 a month or thereabouts.

Participantpersonally, ive never felt or experienced any need to go faster.
slow is beautiful.
i did attempt to buy one yesterday but was thwarted by the failure to agree on a price. We got stuck about $600.00 apart. I felt misled by a dealer’s promise to beat another dealer’s quote. I’d rather not go into the details of who and what, but…perhaps the internet hasn’t changed everything. I thought we had an agreement in principle and they thought I was just another dude to work over with four square boxes (although they put that away pretty fast when I told them to…) and repeat trips to the back room to implore their manager to sell a car.
Ah well…

Participantim only afraid if I don’t buy a new car I’ll have an accident and get hurt.
I promise not to regret holding on for any other reason.

Participantim going to feel really stupid if I die in my old car due to lack of safety features. but so far nothing much has happened in 250,000 miles over a quarter century dangerwise. except for once a car came at me head on in NM and I swerved right, avoiding contact. so it’s good at swerving…

it’s very exciting to read, kind fo scary to implement, but probably the best thing a kid could do.
