ParticipantI submit that there is no teaching without a relationship, and grading interferes in various bad ways with the formation of a true relationship.
I say this from the perspective of one who was generally at the top of t he class
On the ot her hand if my kid had continued to get Cs at sdsu I would’ve cut him off.
There are ideals and then there’s reality.

ParticipantTeachers shall henceforth question students and students shall defend their answers under impromptu questioning. Every interaction will be a “test” but there will be no tests per se.
Teachers “grading” shall no longer be numerical but shall be in the form of an essay, no less than 5000 words, describing students strengths weaknesses and suggestions for further study.
Or we could just stick with a b c and f.
There is no need for these letters. They are not “objective” or meaningful.

ParticipantWe learn from living, from reading, from thinking, questuoning, envisioning, calculating from observing; school has very limited opportunities to actually learn much. It’s too noisy and filled with cacaphony.

I don’t think I said I never had a good teacher. Just that I would not know how to define good in this context.

ParticipantNo one can teach you the law. You must learn the law yourself.
I suppose a good teacher directs you toward better questions to think about.
